Unable to bear seeing Nirvana, not only this Nirvana, but in the past, I could not bear to die, so I died before. Kunga clasped his hands and prayed to the Blessed One: In the past, the Blessed One had also died in his previous life. Later, please explain in detail the deeds of his passing away. The Blessed One said to Kunga: In the past, immeasurable, countless, inconceivable kalpas ago, in a certain place in this Jambudvipa, there was a king named Moonlight who ruled Jambudvipa, possessing eighty-four thousand small kingdoms, sixty thousand regions, and eighty thousand cities. That king had twenty thousand concubines, the chief concubine was named Flower Giving, the middle concubine was named Great Eyes, and that king had about five hundred sons. The king's eldest son and heir was named Good Morality. The palace where the king lived was called Good Life, and the circumference of that palace was four hundred yojanas, made of gold, silver, ་རྱ་(Tibetan, Devanagari, Roman transliteration, literal Chinese meaning) and crystal. In the garden, there were four rows of gold, silver, ་རྱ་(Tibetan, Devanagari, Roman transliteration, literal Chinese meaning) and crystal trees. Some trees had branches of gold and leaves of silver; some trees had branches of silver and leaves of gold; some trees had branches of ་རྱ་(Tibetan, Devanagari, Roman transliteration, literal Chinese meaning) and leaves of crystal; some trees had branches of crystal and leaves of ་རྱ་(Tibetan, Devanagari, Roman transliteration, literal Chinese meaning); the precious ponds were also made of gold, silver, ་རྱ་(Tibetan, Devanagari, Roman transliteration, literal Chinese meaning) and crystal, and the bottom of the ponds was also covered with sand of four kinds of precious stones. The king's palace was surrounded by forty yojanas filled with gold, silver, lapis lazuli, and crystal. The people living in that place were happy and prosperous, with good harvests every year, enjoying wealth, and possessing countless precious treasures. At that time, the king lived in the palace and often thought to himself: The people living in the world, for those who are powerful and great, everyone will respectfully serve them. As soon as he thought this, the supreme enjoyment of the five desires was fulfilled as desired. In this way, he obtained the supreme fruit.

Moreover, it arose from accumulating merit in the past. For example, farmers who sow many seeds in the spring hope to harvest a lot in the autumn. I am the same; because I accumulated merit in the past, I have achieved this state now. Thinking that if I don't sow seeds now, there will be no hope in the future, I said to the ministers, "Now, in order to give away my jewels and all possessions, pile them up at the city gates and in the center of the marketplace, so that sentient beings can take whatever they desire." Furthermore, out of the eighty-four thousand small kingdoms, I have ordered that all the treasuries be designated for giving to many beings. I have raised a golden banner and beaten a golden drum, spreading the news far and wide so that everyone may hear and know. At that time, ascetics, Brahmins, the poor, the helpless, the elderly, and those driven by pleasure, all gathered like clouds in that land. Those who wanted clothes were given clothes; those who wanted food were given food; those who wanted gold, silver, and precious jewels were given gold, silver, and precious jewels; and those who were sick were given medicine and whatever else they needed, according to their wishes. At that time, all the beings dwelling in Jambudvipa sang songs of joy and danced, praising the king with verses, all happy and at peace thanks to the king's kindness. The king's good name spread everywhere, and no one disobeyed his commands. At that time, in a remote border region, there was a small king named Bima Sena who became jealous of King Moonlight, so much so that he could not sleep peacefully. Unable to fall asleep, he thought, "Unless I get rid of King Moonlight, my name will not become famous. I should summon the wanderers residing in my territory and find a way to make them accomplish this." So, he summoned the wanderers residing in his territory, prepared various kinds of food with a hundred flavors, and offered them with respect for three months. Then he said to the wanderers, "I am overwhelmed with sorrow and uneasy day and night. You...
