I have already given alms with nine hundred and ninety-nine heads. Now, with this head, I will complete the thousand, and also perfect the perfection of generosity. Do not obstruct my unsurpassed mind of enlightenment! At that time, the tree deity, having heard the king's words, restored the Brahmin to his original state. The Brahmin stood up, took his sword, and cut off the king's head. The head fell to the ground, and the great earth shook in six ways. The heavenly palace also trembled, becoming uneasy, and wondrous signs appeared. Everyone saw that the Bodhisattva had given his head for the sake of all beings, and they gathered together, marveling. They wept, tears falling like rain, saying: King Moonlight has given his head in charity, and has also perfected the perfection of generosity, and this matter became known everywhere. King Vimasena, having heard this, was very displeased, fainted, his heart broke, and he died. At that time, when the Brahmin took the king's head and left, the lesser kings, ministers, consorts, and princes threw their bodies on the ground, wailing and lamenting. Some vomited blood and died. Some became mindless, remembering nothing. Some plucked out all their hair. Some tore all their clothes. Some scratched their faces with both hands, wailing and lamenting, and fell to the ground. At that time, the Brahmin, disliking the king's head because it was unclean and smelled bad, threw it on the ground and left. Some Brahmins scolded him, saying: You are truly cruel! If it was not needed from the beginning, why did you ask for it? The Brahmin went on his way, and everyone he met scolded him, and because they did not give him food, he became very weak. On the road, he heard the news that Vimasena had also died, and his initial hope was shattered. He became despondent with grief, his heart broke into seven pieces, he vomited blood, and died. King Vimasena and the Brahmin, having died, were both born in the Avici hell. Those who died grieving for King Moonlight were born as gods in the heavens. Ananda

Oh, at that time, at that moment, King Moonlight was me now. King Bima Sena was the evil and sinful one. At that time, the Brahmin was now Devasdatta. At that time, the tree goddess was now the son of Dagala. At that time, the minister Great Moon was Shariputra. At that time, I also passed away earlier because I could not bear to see me pass away. Now, in this era, I also passed away earlier because I could not bear to see me enter Nirvana. After the Blessed One said this, the venerable Ananda and the other retinues praised the merits of the Tathagata in unison, saying that they were rare and wonderful. Then, they diligently practiced meditation, and some attained the fruits of a Shramana. Some attained the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and rejoiced and manifested joy in what the Blessed One said. The twenty-second chapter, the chapter of King Moonlight giving his head (ends). Twenty-second, the chapter of King Moonlight giving his head.
