In the past, beyond immeasurable and countless kalpas, in this Jambudvipa, there was a king named Maha Shakuli who ruled five hundred small kingdoms. This king had five hundred consorts, but not a single son to inherit the throne, so the king thought to himself: I am old and have no son to inherit the throne. If after I die, these small kingdoms do not listen to each other and wage war, then sentient beings will also die innocently, and the country will be in turmoil. Thinking this way, he was distressed and disturbed by sorrow. At that time, Indra, the lord of the gods, saw from afar that the king was unhappy and disturbed, so he descended from the sky, transformed into a doctor, and came to the king and asked: King, why are you so depressed and unhappy?
