Then, they pleaded with the Bhagavan, saying: "O Bhagavan, what merit did you perform in the past that you possess such a wheel mark?" The Bhagavan replied: "In the past, I performed the ten virtuous deeds and encouraged others to do so, therefore I possess such a clear mark." Then the king again pleaded with the Bhagavan: "O Bhagavan, please compassionately explain how you performed the ten virtuous deeds and how you encouraged others to perform them." The Bhagavan said to the king: "Listen attentively and keep it in mind, and I will explain it. In the past, countless eons ago, in this Jambudvipa, there was a king named Chariot Woman, who ruled over eighty-four thousand small kingdoms, had ten thousand cities, and ten thousand great ministers. Although that king had twenty thousand consorts, he had no son, so the king was very unhappy, thinking that there was no successor, and he was overwhelmed with sorrow. He made offerings to all the gods, and later, at another time, the great queen Suli Pala became pregnant. From then on, the queen became more virtuous and wise, gentle and kind, and willing to lead many beings to virtue. Later, after a full month, she gave birth to a baby boy, with a good appearance, pleasing to look at, better than ordinary people, and light emanating from every pore. The king loved the boy very much and thought that he would never know sorrow. He showed him to the soothsayers, and the soothsayers examined the good and bad signs and said with joy: "This boy is very wonderful! If this boy's name is associated with the four continents, he will rule over the four continents." The king was very happy and said to the soothsayers: "Give the boy a name." The soothsayers asked the king: "What wonderful signs occurred after this boy entered his mother's womb?" The boy's mother said: "I became more virtuous and kind, and I liked to lead others to virtue." So the soothsayers named the boy Wisdom Light.

E! After being appointed as the crown prince, he surpassed others by possessing the wisdom of a sage. Then, one day, the great king passed away, and the ministers requested the prince to ascend the throne. The prince said to the ministers, "I cannot be king." The ministers reported, "Now that the great king has passed away, there is no other king besides you, Prince. If you do not become king, then who will?" The prince said, "These people in the world all engage in unreasonable and sinful deeds. Killing and punishing with penalties are not small faults for me. If all of you, the people of the country, can practice the ten virtuous deeds, then I can also be king." The ministers reported, "This is good. Please ascend the throne and exercise your power. We will follow your instructions and practice all the paths of the ten virtuous deeds." So the prince ascended the throne, and everyone agreed to practice the path of the ten virtuous deeds and acted according to his instructions. At that time, the king of demons became jealous. In order to undermine the king's rule, he wrote a defamatory letter and sent it to all the small kingdoms, which read: "Before, I ordered you to do good, but there are no obvious signs of doing good, and I do not receive any benefit from afflictions. From now on, indulge in the ten non-virtuous deeds as you please!" This defamatory letter came into the hands of the kings of the small kingdoms, and they were all surprised, thinking: Why does the great king encourage us to do evil? This is unreasonable. Before believing it, let's report it to the king first. When the king heard them report this, he was both frightened and surprised, thinking: I did not order this, so why has it become like this? So the king himself went to all the regions to observe whether the people had changed their previous behavior. The king of demons conjured up a person on the road in a large, blazing fire pit, painfully uttering cries of compassion. The king heard this sound and went there, asking, "Who are you? What crime have you committed?"

After asking this, that person said: 'I used to arrange for these people to engage in the ten virtuous actions, but now they are experiencing such unbearable suffering.' The king said: 'Encouraging people to do good, but experiencing such suffering, is unreasonable. If you are experiencing such suffering, did those who were encouraged to do good and did good receive the fruits of virtue?' (That person) said: 'They did receive the fruits of virtue, only encouraging people to do good causes such suffering.' After hearing those words, the king was very happy and said: 'If others have received the fruits of virtue, it is worth suffering, there is no regret.' After hearing this, the king of demons immediately made them disappear. After that, the king went to all places, proclaiming the path of the ten virtuous actions, and all the people desired virtue through body, speech, and mind. Everyone praised the king's merits. At that time, he possessed a golden wheel and the seven precious things, went to the four continents, and diligently arranged for people to do good. At that time, that great king was my father, Śuddhodana (净饭王), now. At that time, the mother of that prince was my mother, the goddess of beauty, now. King Wisdom Light, the one who arranged for many people to engage in the ten virtuous actions, was me. At that time, I also practiced the ten virtuous actions and arranged for others to engage in the ten virtuous actions, therefore a wheel with a thousand spokes appeared under my feet.' Then, King Embodied Heart again said to the Bhagavan: 'Those six teachers and their deluded followers cannot control themselves, are attached to gain and fame, give rise to jealousy, and request to compete with the Bhagavan in miracles, saying that if the Bhagavan performs one miracle, we will perform two. Although the Bhagavan displayed inconceivable miracles, the six teachers could not display even one miracle, and feeling ashamed and embarrassed, they jumped into the water and drowned. These people are too deluded, confused!'
