At that time, the image of the elephant was slightly damaged, and a person came to pay homage. Seeing that the elephant was slightly damaged, he thought: This is the vehicle of the Bodhisattva, since it is damaged, I should restore it. So, he repaired it with clay and coated it with resin, and then made a vow, saying: May I always be born into a noble family in the future, and possess inexhaustible wealth. That person died and was reborn as a high-ranking deity. After passing away from the deity, he was reborn in the human world, always born into a noble family, possessing wealth, and having a noble appearance, and he always protected the golden elephant. The Blessed One told Ananda: The person who repaired the elephant at that time is now the Bhikshu Elephant Protector. Since he repaired the elephant, he has possessed great wealth among gods and humans. Because of his reverence and respect for the Three Jewels, he now met me and became a renunciate, all defilements of his mind have been exhausted, and he has become an Arhat. The Venerable Ananda and many attendants, having heard what the Blessed One said, all understood the meaning, and some attained the stream-entry fruit, some attained the once-returner fruit, some attained the non-returner fruit, and some also attained the Arhat fruit. Some aroused the supreme Bodhicitta and abided in the irreversible stage. The Blessed One spoke, the retinue
