After hiding the goods, he went to another country. He made a lot of money there, and also took a wife and had many children. Later, the first wife, named "Necklace," was poor and painstakingly raised two sons. The two sons asked their mother, "Where did our father go?" The mother said, "Children, he is in such and such place in such and such country, and it is said that he has a lot of wealth. Go there, and if possible, he may give you some living expenses." So, the eldest son went to look for his father, and he traveled from road to road, finally arriving in front of his father. The father recognized him from his appearance and asked loudly, "Where did you come from? Where are you going now?" The son narrated the situation in detail. The father thought, "This must be my son." So, he kept the son by his side and instructed him, "Son, don't tell anyone that I am your father." Then, he began to love him. The other sons asked their father, "Father, whose child is this?" The father said, "He is the son of my friend." They thought, "He loves him so much, this must be his son." Then, they said to each other, "This must be our elder brother." The father thought, "It is like this among enemies, the mother's discord is not good, he may be killed, so send him away." Even so, if I give him a little something, he will be killed on the road because of greed. It is better to send him back to his mother. So, he wrote a letter to him: From here, go one yojana to the east, under the ear tree that moves quickly between villages, a clever and prudent person will dig, and you will get the same wealth as me. Whatever is around the neck, give it to Necklace. He wrote such a letter to him and gave it to him. He took the letter and set off, and the younger brothers stopped him on the road and asked, "What did you get from your father?" He said, "I didn't get anything, just gave this letter."

So. Then they said, "This is like being deceived by the father, go away." Having said that, they let him go. Eventually he returned to his own home and rested for a while. After sitting for a while, the mother said, "What did you get from your father?" The son said, "Although I didn't get anything, I got a letter like this." The mother said, "Son, you have been deceived by your father, and you have only wasted your time on the road, and you have not achieved anything." The son said, "That place is big, it won't deceive me." Having said that, he began to study the letter. "From the village" means the place where he was born, which is indicated here as "village." "To the village" means the place where he was thrown away, which is the cremation ground. In "under the quick horse's ear tree," "quick horse" refers to a horse, and "ear tree" refers to a horse's ear, referring to under the horse's ear tree. "From that place to the east side" refers to the east side. "About one yojana" refers to only one yojana. Having analyzed the verse in that way, he went to the cemetery at night when people were not moving around. Near there was a tree called Horse Ear, and he measured the east side of that tree and dug about a yoke's distance, and after a while, he saw a golden vase with a string of pearls tied around its neck. He was very happy, picked up the golden vase and went home, untied the pearl necklace and gave it to his mother and son. Monks, what do you think? At that time, the one who became the householder was me. At that time, the one who became his son was this Jivaka, and at that time he also understood what I meant. Now he also understands what I mean. So. Then Jivaka thought, "The Blessed One has a vajra-like body and is tall, so a small amount of medicinal oil cannot heal this." So he carefully measured and applied thirty-two srangs of medicinal oil to the Blessed One's body, and the remainder in the bowl was distributed to the monks. The monks thought, "This is the remainder in the Blessed One's bowl." So they prostrated and drank it. Then Devadatta thought, "I will also use medicine.

Thinking, "I will drink butter," he asked the attendant: "Attendant, what medicinal butter did the ascetic Gautama drink?" The attendant said: "He consumed thirty-two srangs." Devadatta said: "I will also drink thirty-two srangs." The attendant said: "The Blessed One has a vajra-like body and is tall, so he can consume that much medicinal butter and digest it, but you cannot digest it." Devadatta said: "I also have a vajra-like body, why can't I digest it?" Having said that, he also drank thirty-two srangs. Then, the Blessed One digested it, but Devadatta did not digest it. Then, the next day, the attendant again offered the Blessed One medicinal butter mixed with rice gruel. Devadatta, because the Blessed One had consumed it, under the influence of pride, mixed the medicinal butter with rice gruel and drank it without digesting it. As a result, he was struck by severe pain, afflicted by a disease that struck at his vital points. Because of this, he experienced intense and unbearable suffering, fever, and unpleasant feelings, and could not sleep day or night. The venerable Ānanda, out of love for his brother, told the Blessed One about this. Then, the Blessed One extended his hand, which was like an elephant's trunk, adorned with wheels, auspicious marks, and swastikas, born from hundreds of thousands of merits, and which dispelled all fears. From the summit of Vulture Peak Mountain, he touched Devadatta's head and made a statement of truth. "By whatever truth, just as I love my only son Rāhula, with no increase or decrease in my heart, I also love Devadatta in the same way, by that truth may this person's illness be pacified." Having said this, at the very moment of making the statement of truth, Devadatta's illness was pacified, and he recovered from the brink of death. Then, he saw the Blessed One's hand and recognized it, thinking, "This is the hand of the ascetic Gautama." Because for a long time his mind had been obscured and controlled by the arrogance cultivated through deception, he was thus overcome by the greatness of the Buddha.
