All those monks of various lineages who had gathered and assembled, were they all tamed by the Buddha? Or were they tamed by the Hearers? Thus he thought. Then again, the Blessed One thought: Some here will be tamed by the Buddha, and some will be tamed by the Hearers. Having thought thus, he addressed the venerable Ānanda: Ānanda, be bold in the aspects of enlightenment! Having spoken thus, the Blessed One blessed them in such a way that the sound filled the entire assembly. Then many monks, having heard the sound of such words being spoken, thought: The Blessed One is urging the venerable Ānanda to speak on the aspects of enlightenment, so now the venerable Ānanda will expound all the pleasing Dharma, like a bee extracting honey. Thinking this, they went to where the Blessed One was, circumambulated the Blessed One, and sat down. Then the venerable Ānanda said to the monks: Venerable ones, mindfulness, the perfect limb of enlightenment, relying on solitude, relying on detachment, relying on cessation, being completely transformed by abandonment, was shown by the Blessed One himself, having directly realized and perfectly awakened. Venerable ones, discrimination of dharmas, diligence, joy, perfect pliancy, concentration, and equanimity, the perfect limbs of enlightenment, relying on solitude, relying on detachment, relying on cessation, being completely transformed by abandonment, were shown by the Blessed One himself, having directly realized and perfectly awakened. Starting from these very limbs of enlightenment, the venerable Ānanda taught the monks the Dharma that was in accordance with them. Therefore, those who were connected with the Hearers and roots of virtue, while sitting on those very seats, abandoned all defilements and directly realized the state of Arhat. Then, the Blessed One, having understood that the venerable Ānanda's speech had come to an end, remained silent.

Then, having straightened their bodies from the lotus posture, they sat with mindfulness present. The Blessed One said to the venerable Ānanda: Ānanda, do you show diligence? He replied: Blessed One, I show diligence. He said: Ānanda, do you show diligence? He replied: Sugata, I show diligence. He said: Ānanda, diligence will turn into unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. The Blessed One, starting from these aspects of enlightenment, taught the Dharma that was in accordance with it. Therefore, those who were connected with the Blessed One and the roots of virtue, having abandoned all defilements while seated on their respective seats, directly realized Arhatship. Those Arhats, having become free from the desire of the three realms, regarding gold and ashes as equal, possessing a mind like the sky and the palm of the hand, cool like sandalwood soaked in water, having destroyed the shell of the egg with wisdom, having obtained wisdom and superknowledge, and individual perfect knowledge, not looking at the gains of existence, attachment, and reverence, were worshiped and remembered by the gods with power and attendants, and became a place of respectful praise. Then, at that time, a certain monk spoke in verses: For the sake of hearing the sweet Dharma, the Teacher, even though sick, urged himself. If you have the limbs of enlightenment, monk, you should speak. The venerable Ānanda, wise and famous, having become pure, requested, saying: Hero, in your scriptures, those white dharmas are present. Mindfulness and discrimination, diligence and joy, as well as thorough training, concentration, and equanimity, these stainless ones are your limbs of enlightenment. Having heard the essence of the limbs of enlightenment, he also realized the essence of the limbs of enlightenment. From the severe illness of the Blessed One, the harm was pacified from that. If the lord of Dharma, who teaches this precious Dharma, also wishes to hear the Dharma, how much more so will others not listen? The one with the ten powers, the king of attendants, is the supreme wisdom of the monks. Whatever teaching there is, it is also afflicted by the desire to hear the Dharma.

Treatise on the Vinaya, Mother of Sutras. The wise know what is right and wrong. If they listen to the true Dharma, why not listen to the views of others? When the wise abide with a mind of seeking knowledge and listen according to the Dharma, they will likewise attain joy in the flawless teachings of the Buddha. The mind will be joyful, and the body will be exceedingly tamed, and one will also experience bliss. Having attained bliss, through the nature of mind, one will also touch upon samadhi. By abiding with an equanimous mind, one will understand the aspects of the objects of action. One will become weary of the cycle of existence, and one will be liberated by a mind without attachment. If one is constantly weary of the cycle of existence, then there will be no attachment to gods and humans. Like a fire without fuel, the Arhats pass into Nirvana. The benefits of listening to the true Dharma, many others have also been taught by the Victorious One. Therefore, thinking that this exists, one should listen to the Teacher's words. Then, the monks requested the Buddha, the Bhagavan. Venerable Bhagavan is a good speaker, speaking and good.
