He passed completely into nirvana in the realm of nirvana without remainder. Then, King Prasenajit, possessing great wealth in a wide and open place, piled up fragrant woods and cremated his relics. Then, in order to prevent his relics from being taken away by others, some Caṇḍālas were appointed as guards not far from where the relics were placed. As those Caṇḍālas were sleeping in that place, a tiger carried away one of the Caṇḍālas. Another Caṇḍāla, feeling fear and terror, said, "I prostrate to the Buddha!" Through the power of the Buddha, he was protected by the gods. Then, when King Prasenajit built a stupa for the relics of the perfectly enlightened Buddha Vipaśyin, and after everything was completely accomplished, at the time of holding a festival celebration, that Caṇḍāla thought, "Whatever the case, my being alive is due to the power of the Buddha, the Bhagavan." Thinking this, he gave great respect to the stupa and prayed, "Alas! May this root of virtue cause me to please a teacher who is exactly like this one, and may I not displease him. May I be ordained in the teachings of that very one, abandon all afflictions, and realize the state of an Arhat." Monks, what do you think? The one who was a Caṇḍāla at that time was none other than this Caṇḍāla's son. Because he gave respect to the stupa and prayed, monks, I have attained the same perfect enlightenment as the Buddha Vipaśyin, the same perfect equality, the same power, the same deeds, and the same methods. He pleased me, did not displease me, and having been ordained in my own teachings, he abandoned all afflictions and realized the state of an Arhat. Furthermore, having been ordained in the teachings of the perfectly enlightened Buddha Kāśyapa, he became a quarrelsome and inarticulate monk. He became angry with many monks there and uttered the word "Caṇḍāla." Later, he felt remorse and asked those monks for forgiveness, and for the rest of his life,

Even though he practiced celibacy for a lifetime, he did not obtain any accumulation of merit, and at the time of death he made a prayer: 'May I please the Buddha, the Bhagavan, the perfectly complete Buddha Light Protector, who was prophesied by the Brahmin boy. May I not displease him. May I go forth in his teaching, abandon all defilements, and realize the state of Arhat.' Monks, what do you think? The monk who went forth in the teaching of the perfectly complete Buddha Light Protector at that time was none other than this Chandalika boy. Because of the ripening of the karma of speaking the word 'Chandalika' to many monks there, he was born into the Chandalika caste for five hundred lifetimes. He practiced celibacy for one lifetime and made a prayer at the time of death: 'May I please the Buddha, the Bhagavan, the perfectly complete Buddha Light Protector, who was prophesied by the Brahmin boy. May I not displease him. May I go forth in his teaching, abandon all defilements, and realize the state of Arhat.' Because of the ripening of that karma, monks, I have become extremely similar to the perfectly complete Buddha Light Protector, equal in power, equal in deeds, equal in means. Having attained this, this person has pleased me, has not displeased me, and has gone forth in my teaching, abandoned all defilements, and realized the state of Arhat. The one called Rab-bzang: There was a charioteer of King Zasus-gtsang (净饭王, Śuddhodana), named Rab-bzang. He took a wife because of circumstances, and he played and rejoiced with her, but she had no son. Because he wanted a son, he prayed to the god Gulang, the water god, Kubera, Indra, Brahma, and so on, as well as the gods of the monastery, the gods of the forest, the gods of the crossroads, the gods of the three-way intersections, the gods who receive offerings, the co-born gods, the Dharma-abiding gods, and the gods who always follow. He prayed in this way.

Although she had conceived, she bore neither a son nor a daughter. At that time, when the Bodhisattva was born, the diviners prophesied: "If he remains at home, he will become a Chakravartin king. If he shaves his hair and beard, puts on colored robes, and goes forth from home into homelessness with true faith alone, then in the world he will become a Tathagata, an Arhat, a perfectly enlightened Buddha, renowned." Upon hearing this prophecy, the charioteer Excellent Good immediately felt great suffering, thinking, "If I had a son, he would become a young charioteer, and thus the lineage of charioteers would not be cut off." He then engaged even more diligently in praying to various deities. At that time, the Bodhisattva, having seen an old man, a sick person, and a dead person, settled in the forest. He went there and practiced austerities for six years. Having practiced austerities there for six years, he accepted milk porridge mixed with honey, made from milk refined sixteen times by the daughters of the villagers of Srika, Delightful Girl and Delightful Strength. Then, he accepted grass from the grass seller Auspicious One. Then, the Naga king Black praised him and went to the Bodhi tree. He himself spread the grass without disturbing it. Then, he sat in the lotus position, thinking firmly, "I will not break this lotus position until I have attained unsurpassed wisdom." There, he defeated thirty-six crore demons and attained unsurpassed, perfect, and complete wisdom. Then, urged by Brahma, he recited three times in Varanasi, turned the wheel of Dharma properly in twelve aspects, and ordained the five ascetics. Then, he established the five close ascetics, the sixty companions of Good Conduct, the chief of the fifty children of the village, and the two siblings Delightful Girl and Delightful Strength in the truth. He ordained the two brothers Burning Light Protector and Water God Protector, went to Gaya, subdued with three kinds of miracles, went to the reed forest, and King Embodied Essence
