May the Tathagata Bhagavan, who was prophesied by the Brahmin boy Kashyapa, cause us to rejoice, and may he not cause us to not rejoice. May we renounce in that very doctrine, abandon all defilements, and may we realize the state of Arhat. Having done so, monks, I have also attained complete and perfect enlightenment, being very similar to Kashyapa Buddha, equal in power, equal in deeds, and equal in means. These have caused me to rejoice and have not caused me to not rejoice. Having renounced in my own doctrine, they have abandoned all defilements and realized the state of Arhat. What is called hearing is: The basis of the discourse is that he resided in Shravasti. At that time in Shravasti, there lived a householder who was rich, wealthy, and had great possessions. He was widely respected, vast, possessed the wealth of Vaishravana, and rivaled the wealth of Vaishravana. He took a wife through skillful means, and together they played, rejoiced, and enjoyed themselves. Later, his wife became pregnant. After nine or ten months, she gave birth to a boy who was handsome, pleasing to behold, beautiful, with a good complexion, the color of gold, with a head like an umbrella, long arms, a broad forehead, a high and well-formed nose, and thick eyebrows. They held a grand birth celebration and named him according to his lineage. He was raised with milk, yogurt, butter, ghee, and the essence of butter, growing rapidly like a lotus in a pond. Then, when he grew up, he was taught writing, arithmetic, storytelling, joking, manual calculation, addition, subtraction, hiding, displaying, clothing inspection, jewel inspection, precious gem inspection, spice inspection, medicine inspection, elephant inspection, horse inspection, and weapon inspection. He became skilled in writing, reading, intelligent, clear in tasks, joyful in mind, and proficient in the eight types of inspection. Then, his father built three houses for him: a winter house, a summer house, and a rainy season house.
