That which is called "dapa" and "om," and that which is called "bho," and pure cleanliness and rituals, and taking ashes, and holding pills, and the science of definitive expression, and the science of offering sacrifices, and the science of poetry, and the science of protecting the state, and doing offering sacrifices, and causing to do offering sacrifices, and giving, and taking, and doing recitation, and having learned the means of teaching recitation, he became a Brahmin skilled in the six activities. Gradually, he became proficient in the eighteen fields of knowledge. Later, one day, he saw my father holding the kingdom with dharma and non-dharma. Having seen this, he thought, "After my father dies, until I hold the crownless kingdom, I will abandon living at home and dwell in the forest." Having thought this, he asked his parents and settled in the forest. Having gone there, he developed the four dhyanas and the five superknowledges. Then, one day, he went to the king's palace, Increase of Rice. His father, for the sake of his son, erected a hut of branches and leaves in my pleasure garden and served him with all necessities. From time to time, many common people would go to him and listen to the Dharma. Then, one day, King Lhunpo, having armed the four divisions of his army, went hunting. The king saw many common people going to the pleasure garden of the leader. Having seen this, he asked, "Where are these crowds of people going?" The ministers replied, "O God, the son of the leader has gone forth, and he has become great in magical powers and also great in strength. These are going to see him." Then the king thought, "He is my most beloved and pleasing, a Khenpo and one to be remembered, so I will also go to see him." Having thought this, the king went to where the hermit was. The hermit, having seen him, neither welcomed him nor stood up. Then, as soon as he saw him, the king was overwhelmed with great anger. "This is the son of the leader who lives in my country. When I come, he neither welcomes me nor stands up. Therefore, I will cut off his head and throw it away," he thought.

Thinking maliciously, the light emanating from that king's body disappeared the moment he generated that thought. The earth also cracked, causing him to sink into the ground, and as soon as the king saw that, he felt great fear. Thinking, 'This ascetic is very miraculous and powerful,' he felt great joy. Then, he prostrated at the ascetic's feet and begged for forgiveness. Then the ascetic said, 'Great king, I can forgive you, but you should ask for forgiveness from your own mind.' Then, the king, frightened, said to the ascetic, 'Ascetic, will I lose my kingdom or encounter a threat to my life?' The ascetic said, 'Great king, do not be afraid! You will neither lose your kingdom nor encounter a threat to your life. However, because you harbored malice towards me, your light disappeared and the earth cracked. Great king, if you generate a joyful mind towards me again, your light will reappear as before.' Then, as soon as he heard that, the king felt joy towards the ascetic. His light appeared as before, and the earth also returned to its original state. Monks, what do you think? The one who became the ascetic at that time was none other than Piṇḍola-bharadvāja himself. The king who became Mount Meru was none other than King Cārka of Badsa. At that time, it was also because he harbored malice towards him that his halo disappeared and the earth cracked. When he generated a joyful mind again, the halo appeared, and the cracked earth also returned to its original state. Even now, because he harbors malice towards him, his light has disappeared and the earth has cracked. When he generates a joyful mind towards him, his halo also appears, and the cracked earth also returns to its original state. The so-called 'Banner of Victory' was spoken while residing in Shravasti. At that time, in the city of Varanasi, a king named Brahma-datta was ruling. During his reign, there was wealth, prosperity, happiness, and good harvests.
