Then he went around searching, going to towns, market towns, cities, villages, and royal palaces. The minister, the son of the Dark One of the Lineage, saw King Udayana of Vatsa coming from afar. Seeing him, he was overjoyed and went to King Udayana of Vatsa, inquired about his health, and asked, "Where did the god go?" Then King Udayana of Vatsa recounted in detail what had happened. The minister, the son of the Dark One of the Lineage, said, "O god, everything that the venerable Piṇḍola Bharadvāja prophesied has come to pass exactly as he said." Then, as soon as he heard this, the king became very fond of the sthavira. He thought, "For a while, I will postpone going to the city and instead pay homage to the venerable Piṇḍola Bharadvāja himself." So, instead of going to Kauśāmbī, he went to the Kunadgara monastery of the householder Gandhalavik. He went by chariot as far as the ground where one should go by chariot. Then he got off the chariot and went on foot to the monastery. He went to the venerable Piṇḍola Bharadvāja and, having arrived there, prostrated himself at the feet of the venerable Piṇḍola Bharadvāja and sat down in front of him in order to listen to the Dharma. The sthavira also taught him the Dharma that was appropriate for him. Then, King Udayana of Vatsa, knowing that the venerable Piṇḍola Bharadvāja had finished speaking, rose from his seat, draped his upper robe over one shoulder, and, bowing with his palms joined together, said to the venerable Piṇḍola Bharadvāja, "Venerable one, may the sangha of monks, together with you, accept my invitation to a meal there for seven days?" Then the venerable Piṇḍola Bharadvāja remained silent, thereby giving his consent to King Udayana of Vatsa. Then King Udayana of Vatsa, knowing that the venerable Piṇḍola Bharadvāja had remained silent, thereby giving his consent, rose from his seat, prostrated himself at his feet, and then departed from the presence of the venerable Piṇḍola Bharadvāja. Then, for seven days, he satisfied the venerable Piṇḍola Bharadvāja and his retinue with many clean and excellent foods. On the final day, he offered each of them a pair of cloths, and then sat down in front of them in order to listen to the Dharma.

Then, having provided for the Sangha of Bhikshus with all necessities for three months, on the final day, he offered robes worth a million to the Bhagavan. He also offered a pair of cloths to each of the other Bhikshus and then departed. They also went to the Bhagavan from time to time to listen to the Dharma. Having listened to the Dharma from the Bhagavan, they went especially to pay homage to the venerable Piṇḍola Bharadvāja. Then, the Bhikshus, seeing this, became doubtful and thought: Why does this king especially honor the venerable Piṇḍola Bharadvāja? They heard about this matter extensively. Having heard it, they reported to the Bhagavan, saying: Venerable One, King Carka of Bhadra, with a mind of extreme hatred, went to the venerable Piṇḍola Bharadvāja. Because of this, his light disappeared, and even the deity on the foundation collapsed. When he again generated a joyful mind, that light also reappeared, and the cracked foundation was also restored. Please observe this. The Bhagavan said: Bhikshus, this is not only now, but in the past, in a city called Dhanyavṛddhi, there was a king named Parvata who ruled. During his reign, the country was prosperous, flourishing, peaceful, and had good harvests, filled with people and many inhabitants. Quarrels and fights were pacified, and disturbances, internal strife, thieves, famine, and diseases were absent. There were rice, sugarcane, cattle, and buffalo. He ruled the kingdom righteously, like treating an only son. Then, that king's courtier, by a stroke of luck, took a wife and played and rejoiced with her, enjoying happiness. Later, his wife became pregnant, and after nine or ten months, she gave birth to a handsome, pleasing, and beautiful boy. They held a grand birth celebration for him and named him according to family tradition. They raised him with milk, yogurt, butter, ghee, and the essence of ghee. When he grew up, he learned writing, the conduct of Brahmins, and behavior.
