That is, all the gardens of Prince Victorious Banner were illuminated by great light, (they) scattered flowers to the Blessed One, and sat before the Blessed One to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One understood the thoughts, habits, realms, and nature of the son of the gods who had previously become an elephant, and taught such a Dharma that could realize the Four Noble Truths. After hearing this, the son of the gods who had previously become an elephant destroyed the twenty towering peaks of the mountain of the view of the collection of destructibles with the vajra of wisdom, and obtained the fruit of stream-entry. After seeing the truth, he spoke three times with joyful words: Venerable Blessed One, you have dried up my sea of blood and tears, crossed the mountain of bones, closed the gates of the lower realms, opened the gates of heaven and liberation, and placed me among gods and humans like this. This is what my father did not do, my mother did not do, the king did not do, the gods did not do, the gathering of family and relatives did not do, the previous relatives did not do, the shramanas and brahmins did not do! He also said: The path of the lower realms, full of many sins, is extremely unbearable, and is cut off by your power. The heavenly realm, full of merit, is opened, and I have also obtained the path of nirvana. Today, I have obtained the eye of abandoning sins, completely relying on you. I have crossed the ocean of suffering to the other shore, and obtained the peaceful state of the joy of the noble ones. The king of humans, worshiped by humans and gods, has abandoned the disease of birth, old age, and death. The capable one, who is difficult to see in a thousand years, you have seen today, and there is retribution! Then, the hanging garland scattered, prostrated and bowed to the two feet, circumambulated the victor over enemies, faced the heavenly realm, and went to the heavenly realm. 那些致力于睡眠的人们，看到了世尊面前出现巨大的光芒。看到后，他们心生疑惑，向佛陀世尊请教：世尊，这是怎么回事？昨天晚上，娑婆世界的统治者梵天，或者天界的主宰因陀罗，或者四大天王，前来拜见世尊了吗？世尊回答说：比丘们，娑婆世界的统治者梵天，或者天界的主宰因陀罗，或者四大天王，不是为了拜见我而来的。你们有没有看到那头象王，它在如来行走的路上抓住了榕树的树枝？尊者，我们看到了。比丘们，它从我这里回去后被狮子杀死了。因为它对我生起了欢喜心，所以转生到天界，成为天人后，来到了我这里。我为它宣说了佛法，它证悟了真谛，然后回到了自己的住所。之后，比丘们向佛陀世尊请教：尊者，那头象王做了什么业，以至于那个业的果报让它转生为大象？做了什么业，以至于那个业的果报让它转生到天界？它让世尊高兴了，还是没有让世尊高兴？世尊回答说：比丘们，既有过去业的一部分，也有现在发生的业的一部分。什么是过去业呢？比丘们，过去，在过去的时候，在这个贤劫中，众生的寿命能活到两万岁的时候，圆满正等觉的佛陀，具足明行足，善逝，世间解，调御丈夫，无上士，天人导师，世尊拘留孙佛（梵文，Kakutsunda Buddha），出现在世间。他的教法中，这个人出家后，对僧团的戒律不恭敬，懈怠放逸。因此，他违犯了很多大小戒律。但他守护了一些戒律，临终时发愿：以此善根，愿我能成为拘留孙佛为婆罗门童子授记的佛陀世尊。

Those who were diligently engaged in sleeping saw a great light appear before the Blessed One. Having seen it, they became doubtful and asked the Buddha, the Blessed One: "Blessed One, what is this? Last night, did the ruler of the Saha world, Brahma, or the lord of the gods, Indra, or the four guardians of the world come to see the Blessed One?" The Blessed One replied: "Monks, the ruler of the Saha world, Brahma, or the lord of the gods, Indra, or the four guardians of the world did not come to see me. Have you seen that elephant king who grabbed the branch of the banyan tree on the road where the Tathagata was walking?" "Venerable One, we have seen it." "Monks, it was killed by a lion after returning from me. Because it generated joy in me, it was born in the heavens, and having become a god, it came to me. I taught it the Dharma, and it realized the truth and then returned to its abode." Then the monks asked the Buddha, the Blessed One: "Venerable One, what karma did that elephant king do, that the result of that karma caused it to be born as an elephant? What karma did it do, that the result of that karma caused it to be born in the heavens? Did it please the Blessed One, or did it not please the Blessed One?" The Blessed One replied: "Monks, there is both a part of past karma and a part of karma that is happening now. What is the past karma? Monks, in the past, in the past time, in this very fortunate eon, when the lifespan of beings was twenty thousand years, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, the Sugata, the knower of the world, the tamer of beings, the unsurpassed, the teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha, the Blessed One, Kakutsunda (梵文，Kakutsunda Buddha), appeared in the world. In his teachings, this person, having renounced, became disrespectful and negligent towards the monastic discipline. Therefore, he violated many major and minor precepts there. But he guarded some precepts, and at the time of death, he made a prayer: 'By this root of virtue, may I become the Buddha, the Blessed One, whom the Buddha Kakutsunda prophesied for the Brahmin boy.'
