It should be definitely said like this. Merely being arrogant is not a Shramana, merely saying "Om" is not a Brahmin. Whoever possesses virtuous Dharma, that pure one is the Brahmin. Merely being arrogant is not a Shramana, merely saying "Om" is not a Brahmin. Whoever abandons all sins, great and small, because of abandoning sins, that is the Shramana Brahmin. Most people bathe here, but cannot be purified by water. Whoever abandons all sins, great and small, because of abandoning sins, that is the Shramana Brahmin. Whoever completely abandons sinful Dharma, constantly acts with mindfulness, that Buddha who has exhausted all afflictions, is the Brahmin in the world. That Brahmin who abandons sinful Dharma, whose self has no hypocrisy or artifice, abides in purity, understands the end of the Vedas, practices Brahmacharya, speaks at the right time, that is the one who speaks of Brahman. Whoever does not dwell in illusion, has no pride, whoever has no attachment, no self, no hope, destroys disputes, whose self tends towards Nirvana, that is the Brahmin, the Shramana, the Bhikshu. Whoever is born from the mother's womb, if he has attachment, that is said to be named a son, I do not say he is a Brahmin. Completely without attachment, without acceptance, I say he is a Brahmin. Whoever does not commit evil deeds with body, speech, and mind, whoever is good at subduing the three places, I say he is a Brahmin. Whose words are not harsh, can understand, speaks pleasing words, whoever does not generate afflictions, I say he is a Brahmin. Whoever can endure killing, imprisonment, abuse, and hateful people, has the asceticism of patience, a collection of strength, I say he is a Brahmin. Without anger, possessing discipline, possessing asceticism, without worry, gentle, abiding at the end of the body, I say he is a Brahmin. Whoever does not mix with renunciates, householders, and both, with few desires, not coming from home, I say he is a Brahmin. Not rejoicing in the future, not grieving for the past, separated from sexual union, victorious in battle, I say he is a Brahmin. Not rejoicing in the future, not grieving for the past.

Free from defilement, peaceful and without sorrow, I say that is a Brahmin. Who has few desires and does not nourish others, is disciplined and well-abides in the essence, has exhausted the outflows and eliminated faults, I say that is a Brahmin. Who is without the other shore and this shore, and without both the other shore and this shore, has reached the end of all dharmas, I say that is a Brahmin. Who is without the other shore and this shore, and without both the other shore and this shore, who is not attached to the three realms, I say that is a Brahmin. Who does not take anything from the world, whether short or long, subtle or coarse, virtuous or non-virtuous, I say that is a Brahmin. Who thoroughly knows this, has exhausted his own suffering, is free from desire and does not possess it, I say that is a Brahmin. Who is not stained by either virtue or sin, is unstained, free from defilement, and peaceful, I say that is a Brahmin. Who has completely transcended whatever attachment there is to virtuous and sinful actions, and is liberated from attachment, I say that is a Brahmin. Who has no beginning, no end, and no middle, is free from defilement and liberated from bonds, I say that is a Brahmin. Like water on a lotus petal, like a mustard seed on the tip of an awl, who does not dwell in sin, I say that is a Brahmin. Like water on a lotus petal, like a mustard seed on the tip of an awl, who does not dwell in desire, I say that is a Brahmin. Like water on a lotus petal, like a mustard seed on the tip of an awl, who has completely abandoned delight in existence, I say that is a Brahmin. Like the moon, pure and stainless, flawless and exceedingly bright, who is not stained by sin, I say that is a Brahmin. Like the moon, pure and stainless, flawless and exceedingly bright, who is not stained by desire, I say that is a Brahmin. Like the moon, pure and stainless, flawless and exceedingly bright, who has completely abandoned delight in existence, I say that is a Brahmin. Like the sky is not stained by mud, like the moon is not stained by dust, who is not stained by sin, I say that is a Brahmin. Like the sky is not stained by mud, like the moon is not stained by dust, who is not stained by desire
