All these who speak of wishing for a good environment do so, saying that we should become such and such in the future. We should become such and such in the future, they only express wishes, express wishes. For example, when a merchant does business with goods, he thinks like this: I should take such and such things from these goods and go elsewhere. If I arrive there, I will gain such and such profits. Similarly, those ascetics and Brahmins who possess knowledge, who later speak of wishing for a good environment, they also do so, saying that we should become such and such in the future. We should become such and such in the future, they only express wishes, express wishes. They say that it will be like a merchant. They also think like this: As long as this coarse body of mine, which has form, arises from the cause of the four great elements, and is alive and dwells, lives and remains, it is accompanied by disease, accompanied by tumors, accompanied by pain, accompanied by plagues, accompanied by complete suffering. As long as this body of mine dies, is completely cut off, and does not arise again, then this body of mine is completely and very perfectly cut off. As long as the gods who act in desire, the gods who act in form, and the formless infinite space realm, approach the formless infinite consciousness realm, approach the formless nothingness realm, approach the formless neither perception nor non-perception realm, and are alive and dwell, live and remain, it is accompanied by disease, accompanied by tumors, accompanied by pain, accompanied by plagues, accompanied by complete suffering. As long as this body of mine dies, is completely cut off, and does not arise again, then this body of mine is completely and very perfectly cut off. Those who think like this also fully understand as it is. Monks, good!

Diligent ones and Brahmins who are wise, who speak of annihilation, who ascribe annihilation, destruction, and non-existence to sentient beings, those have a remainder of aggregates of unknowing. As much as there is a remainder of aggregates of unknowing, that much there is fear because of the destructible aggregates, they fear and are frightened by the destructible aggregates, they completely reproach the destructible aggregates, and when they completely reproach, they are only attached to the destructible aggregates. Monks, that is also coarse, conditioned, thought, and dependently originated. Just like this, if conditioned things exist, then the cessation of conditioned things also exists, therefore the Thus-gone One understood that it exists, and turned back from it, and peacefully observed it, determined to emerge from it and abide. Monks, those who contemplate the future extreme, those who proclaim the aspects of views associated with the future extreme, there are just that many, those are called the aspects of views associated with the future extreme. Monks, how many are those who contemplate the past extreme, those who proclaim the aspects of views associated with the past extreme? Monks, some diligent ones and Brahmins contemplate the past extreme, some of them think that the self and the world are permanent, the self and the world are impermanent, both permanent and impermanent, neither permanent nor impermanent, the self and suffering are permanent, the self and suffering are impermanent, both permanent and impermanent, neither permanent nor impermanent, the self and the world are made by oneself, the self and the world are made by others, both made by oneself and made by others, neither made by oneself nor made by others but arisen without a cause, the self and suffering are made by oneself, the self and suffering are made by others, both made by oneself and made by others, neither made by oneself nor made by others but arisen without a cause, they observe in this way, they speak in this way.
