Like a strong wind felling trees, old age uproots the tree of life of beings. Since no one can escape the fear of death, why do people not always remain vigilant? Old age, which mocks all those in their prime, destroys all strength, and becomes an object of ridicule for everyone, have people not seen it? It weakens the body, clashes with the functions of the senses such as eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind, causes saliva to flow, makes one hunchbacked, decays the cheeks, teeth, skull, joints, vital points, and tendons, obstructs people's movements, becomes the nemesis of all those in their prime, puts all those in their prime in a dangerous situation, joyfully leads people into the city of the king of death, destroys strength and vitality, delights in deception, increases mucus, urine, and feces, and always lies lazily in bed. Why do these unrestrained beings not see this? When the fear of a terrifying disease truly descends, it disrupts the elements of the body, renders all the senses unable to function, dries up all the tendons, marrow, essence, skin, blood, muscles, fat, bones, and semen, becomes the mortal enemy of all bodily fluids, makes it difficult to stand and sit comfortably, and even with the help of medicine and doctors, it is difficult to recover. All things such as food, drinks, licking, and tasting become like impure objects. One becomes thin, weak, and drowsy, with only skin and bones left. All people, including one's own relatives, friends, acquaintances, children, and wife, are enveloped in the fear of disease, and the suffering brought by this disease is like the arrival of the Lord of Death.

Therefore, it is recognized that it will become gentle. The Yogi will then have compassion for those who have become negligent. Having developed compassion, they will also have these as the realm of practice of the Brahma Viharas, namely: loving-kindness, compassion, and joy. Thus, the Yogi will then have compassion for the beings dwelling in the northern region where the sound is unpleasant, and who are dwelling in negligence. And see that the nature of samsara is extremely inferior. And constantly observe the body as if it were a bubble and a bubble on the water. And constantly observe the consciousness, which is like an illusion, with wisdom. And constantly observe the perfections as if they were in a dream. And surely aversion will arise. Furthermore, the Yogi abides by observing the body from the outside in, in the northern region where the sound is unpleasant, whether it is a mountain, a river, or a tree, what else is there besides joy, great joy, and supreme joy? He sees with the wisdom arising from hearing, or with the divine eye, in the northern region where the sound is unpleasant, another mountain called Puxi (普喜), which is a thousand yojanas. Near Mount Puxi, there is a forest called Shunyuan (顺缘), which is five hundred yojanas. That forest is endowed with all sources. There are these sources there, namely: the source of gold, the source of silver, the source of copper, the source of wine, the source of honey, and the source of six tastes, and those and other sources are also there. The vicinity of Shunyuan is delightful, and on those trees that are similar to lapis lazuli, the vines of flowers are completely surrounded, and the lotus ponds with golden petals have stems of silver. The petals of silver have stems of gold. The petals of gold and silver have stems of lapis lazuli, like the red lotus that is like hail when the sun rises.

Those lotus ponds, covered with lotuses, are adorned by various kinds of birds. For example, swans, cranes, white cranes, sea cranes, Kadamba birds, deer-necked birds, water birds, Madhva birds, Bulava birds, Chakravaka birds, Balaka birds, Adya birds, Sarasi birds, Vilala birds, birds that sing in season, Urava birds, nocturnal birds, birds that delight in lotus pollen, Si's wave birds, and wave-born birds, these twenty kinds of birds reside in the lotus pond. Passing far beyond the vicinity of the forest called "Cause and Concordance," reaching halfway up the mountain of Holding Joy, which is a hundred yojanas (ancient Indian unit of length), there dwell beings called "Those Who Steadfastly Abide in the Stream of Light." When they sing in the groves of trees that have turned golden in nature, even the daughters of the gods who dwell in the sky listen. Rivers, lakes, nearby forests, and birds are also abundant, and this place is as it was before. Furthermore, the practitioner of yoga clearly sees the ripening of the karma of sentient beings. These sentient beings, who should be weeping, are singing. Why do they not see this? Because they wander about recklessly due to their carelessness, they will weep in the hells, but they do not fully understand. Bound by the bonds of transverse ropes, sentient beings commit misdeeds with body, speech, and mind. The ripening of these deeds is harsh, causing them to be born in the hells, among the hungry ghosts, and in the animal realm. Because karmas approach as they are, they are utterly destroyed in the Reviving Hell, the Black Line Hell, the Crushing Hell, the Howling Hell, the Great Howling Hell, the Hot Hell, and the Extremely Hot Hell by various kinds of weeping and lamentation. Tightly bound by the five transverse ropes of desirable sounds, tactile sensations, tastes, shapes, and smells, their minds...
