I heard, "I shall generate the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment until the Blessed One passes away." Having heard this, I summoned that Brahmin with all provisions. That Brahmin also entered into seven days of solitude, thinking he should make a vow. After those seven days had passed, he went near to where the Blessed One, the Thus-Gone One, Brahma, was, and made a vow before the Blessed One. The Blessed One said, "Who is the one with the nature of space, the Brahmin who became devoted to the sun, whom I imprisoned?" The Bodhisattva with the nature of space replied, "Blessed One, I am the Brahmin who became devoted to the sun, and I also made a vow before the Blessed One, the Thus-Gone One, Brahma." The Blessed One said, "Son of good family, tell me what vow you made before the Blessed One, the Thus-Gone One, Brahma, in the past." He replied, "Venerable Blessed One, when I desired to rise from my seat in order to make offerings to the Buddha, listen to the Dharma, and attend to the Sangha, may my vow be thus. When I rise from my seat, may the fine particles of earth element on my body, to whatever extent they become, may that many sentient beings, each sentient being having the view of permanence, the view of annihilation, the four inverted views arising from all sides, the view of existence, the view of non-existence, the view of the aggregates, the view of extremes, and so forth, and whatever worldly views with defilements are closely grasped, and that many sentient beings, each one's view of the limit of the past, may all of them become manifestly compounded, and may the cycle of each of those many sentient beings dry up for billions of eons. Thus I made my vow. May the mind and thought of one sentient being not arise with those views until the unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment is manifestly attained. And also, from the time I began to create that limit until the unsurpassed Nirvana...

Therefore, do not let all those views that have been transformed into noble ones, and all those views, enter your heart and mind. Blessed One, when I attain the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, may I eliminate all the views of each and every sentient being from all sentient beings, this is, Blessed One, my aspiration. When I rise from my seat for the sake of seeing the Buddha, up to honoring the Sangha, may I generate this thought: as much as the part of the tip of the hair of my body will destroy the water element, may the karmic obscurations of each and every sentient being from all sentient beings be completely exhausted. How much the six perfections were obscured at the limit of the past, and the karmic obscurations, the obscurations of sentient beings, and the obscurations of virtue were not elevated and abandoned. From the limit of the future until completely passing beyond sorrow, all that obscures will be removed. Whatever I did at the limit of the past, such that the six perfections were obscured, and the obscurations of the Dharma, the obscurations of the mind, and the obscurations of virtue, from later abandoning the cause of completely ripening sentient beings, until completely passing beyond sorrow, may all of those be completely exhausted. When I attain the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, may I eliminate all such obscuring dharmas of each and every sentient being from all sentient beings, and may I quickly arrange that many samadhi dharanis for each and every sentient being. May all sentient beings be completely liberated from the womb. May all sentient beings be saved from the ocean of aging, death, and birth. When I rise from my seat for the sake of honoring the Sangha, this is, Venerable Blessed One, my aspiration. When I abandon the enjoyment of the seat and the implements of comfort, the part of the tip of the hair of my body

Just as the extent to which the fire element transforms, among all sentient beings, from the end of the past of each sentient being to the present life, the karma towards other beings will be completely manifested and accumulated. When from the end of the future to unsurpassed Nirvana, all the evil destinies of each sentient being will be accomplished, from that time until unsurpassed Nirvana, they will never be separated. From this sacred seat to the Bodhi seat under the Bodhi tree, they will never be separated. Whatever karma I have performed in the past at the end, will be manifested and accumulated. From the beginning of manifestation and accumulation, until unsurpassed Nirvana, the lives of all beings will be completely exhausted. When I attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, those beings who are in evil realms and lower evil destinies, from complete liberation to being established in the six perfections, may this become the aspiration of the venerable Bhagavan, my aspiration. When I gaze upon the Buddha, and rise from my seat to venerate the Sangha, and make such a vow: to the extent that the wind element transforms into a part of the tip of the hair of my body, among all sentient beings, for each sentient being, in that period of the end of the past, all the disturbing actions of different natures done to other beings will be completely accumulated. May there be no occurrence of disturbing illnesses in samsara, from samsara until unsurpassed complete Nirvana. Whatever disturbing actions I have done to other beings, starting from the end of the past, will be completely manifested and accumulated, and from that time until unsurpassed complete Nirvana, they will be abandoned. When I attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, for each of all sentient beings, all disturbing illnesses will be completely eliminated by practicing meditation. For each of all sentient beings, diligence will be aimed at in that way.
