What are the five kinds of forbearance that proceed in order? They are: form, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness. Son of lineage, what is the skandha of form? Son of lineage, there are eight kinds. Bodhisattvas should cultivate forbearance by examining them through proper attention. Son of lineage, what are the eight? What is called form is the four great elements. What is called form is disease. What is called desire is the nature of the law of destruction. Whatever is the nature of destruction is impermanent. Its nature is the complete cessation of emptiness without substance. The stream of afflictions, outer and inner, superior, middling, and inferior, is cut off. Just as the sky is complete with everything, so too, one cultivates forbearance endowed with the characteristics of impermanence, suffering, selflessness, and emptiness. This is how a Bodhisattva observes the forbearance that closely sustains the complete maturation of sentient beings. Son of lineage, furthermore, form is also the four great elements. Son of lineage, these four great elements, whether internal or external, large or small, inferior or pleasant, whether far or near, all of them do not move, do not transform, do not arise, do not appear; one should examine them as selfless and without self. One should examine them with the principle of exhaustion, the principle of the nature of quiescence, the principle of non-conceptualization, the principle of non-aspiration, and the principle of being unborn and without characteristics. Just as all extremely fine particles arise, and the body arises completely, one should examine the internal earth element as solid. How does one examine that single, extremely fine particle with subtle insight? How does one fully understand that single, subtle particle becomes the object of all afflictions without characteristics? One should fully understand it as selfless and devoid of characteristics. One should fully understand it as insubstantial and separate from the path of words. One should fully understand it as without object and separate from all sounds. One should fully understand it as separate from selflessness and abandonment, and one should understand the nature of demons. One should fully understand it as without letters and separate from cause and condition. One should fully understand it as insubstantial and separate from cause and condition. Without characteristics.

From that, one can fully understand the extremely fine dust. How to make all formations completely peaceful, one uses those eight aspects to examine a single extremely fine dust. Similarly, the second, similarly, the third, up to all of the internal body, each individually uses these eight aspects to examine a single extremely fine dust. Just as the internal body is, similarly, the earth element of the external body is also examined separately into extremely fine dust using these eight aspects. From the absence of characteristics to the absence of signs, all earth elements, whether internal or external, whether large or small, whether low or comfortable, whether long or near, all of those are truly seen as the nature of exhaustion. Whatever is exhausted is impermanent. Whatever is impermanent is also suffering. Whatever does not arise is without self. Whatever is separated from the path of words of all formations is also emptiness. Just as one fully understands how the external and internal earth elements are empty, so the afflictions of the superior, intermediate, and inferior will be pacified. Just as the sky has no perception or feeling, so too the earth element has no perception or feeling, and cultivating patience endowed with the characteristics of impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness, this should also be regarded as the patience of a Bodhisattva who closely lives to fully ripen all sentient beings. Son of good family, furthermore, the characteristic of moisture in this body is water. The characteristic of water is so minute that it is like a fraction of a hair's tip. All the water elements of the internal body are individually examined as mere drops in the manner of higher seeing. Without the characteristic of being large or small, low or comfortable, fully understanding being free from all afflictions, from the absence of characteristics to the absence of signs, those mere drops, all formations are fully understood to be peaceful. How does one examine a single drop with those eight aspects? Similarly, the second, similarly, the third, up to all the water elements of the internal body, each individually examines each tiny drop with those eight aspects. From the absence of characteristics to the absence of signs, how is the internal water element
