The Tathagata is the eye of all sentient beings, is wisdom, makes all suffering pacified, bestows all happiness, and is the boat of samsara. Then, the venerable Kaundinya, with life, said this to the Blessed One: Venerable Blessed One, which Bodhisattva Mahasattva, with the essence of the power of the sun, revealed the Dharani of the Eye of the Sun, protects greatly, accomplishes all unmixed things, and even accomplishes complete Nirvana. By which Dharani, can the supreme beings, in all the prisons of the three realms, generate thoughts of displeasure, and touch the bliss of liberation of the signless Samadhi, and enter into the immovable Samadhi, and become equal, and whoever hears it, whose afflictions, such as desire, will be reduced, and that person will revolve in the heavens for seven lifetimes, become a celestial sage, that person's mind will not be stained by desires, become worthy of offering by all the gods, and that person, after dying from there, will be reborn here in the human realm, and will also revolve for seven lifetimes, that person's mind will not be stained by desires, become a human sage, become worthy of offering by all gods and humans, and become worthy of worship, what is that Dharani? The Blessed One said: Kaundinya, do not be displeased, it is enough. Kaundinya, this Dharani with the power of the sun is not for the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. This Dharani of the lotus of the eye of the sun is in accordance with the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha. Kaundinya, even if I were to explain the meaning of this Dharani of the Eye of the Sun for hundreds of thousands of kalpas, hundreds of thousands of kalpas would be exhausted, but I would not be able to fully express all the meanings. To this, the world, including the gods, will also be confused. To this, there is no other manifest one except the Tathagata Arhat Samyak-sambuddha. The Dharani of the Eye of the Sun.

This is immeasurable in meaning, difficult to see, and difficult to realize. Likewise, the inexhaustible treasure, likewise the support of the knowledge mantra, likewise pacifying hatred, the dharani mantra that induces sleep, is immeasurable in meaning, difficult to see, and difficult to comprehend. Only the Tathagatas can directly perceive this; there is no one else. Kaundinya requested: Venerable Bhagavan, please explain the dharani that is in accordance with emptiness, which was spoken by the Tathagata Mountain King Tathagata and transmitted by the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Fragrant Elephant. The Bhagavan said: Kaundinya, it is so. The dharani that is in accordance with emptiness, which the Tathagata Mountain King Tathagata transmitted to me here, I will declare in this assembly, please grant faith. I will declare this dharani, which is in accordance with emptiness, before the world with gods. Thus, if I declare this here, it will benefit countless immeasurable beings, and beings will directly perceive it here. Kaundinya, therefore, from 'you...' to 'the Bhagavan spoke thus to him.' Kaundinya, those beings who are intoxicated by the fat of desire and do not look to liberation will wander in samsara for a long time. They will experience harsh, inexhaustible suffering in the three lower realms for a long time. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas generate great compassion. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, with the great power of compassion, diligence, effort, and great asceticism, quickly seek the unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. They quickly attain perfect enlightenment. In order to liberate beings from the three lower realms, they teach the Dharma with determination, giving, and cherishing, in order to completely end suffering. Those beings who listen to the Dharma that is taught and look to liberation from suffering will attain the first fruit.

From action to the attainment of the fourth fruit. Furthermore, if those who, for the sake of all sentient beings, fully seek the unsurpassed wisdom, delight in the fearsome sufferings of samsara, then, having attained the unsurpassed wisdom, they teach the Dharma in order to ensure that sentient beings are liberated from desires, just like me now. Kauṇḍinya, what is the attachment to touch? Sentient beings, those who are touched by the contact of bodies with each other, generate suffering by experiencing the feeling of pleasure. They experience each suffering individually and accurately. For example, some venomous and fierce snakes kill sentient beings merely by looking at them. Some kill sentient beings merely by breathing. Some kill sentient beings merely by touching. Some kill sentient beings merely by copulation. Similarly, some sentient beings, merely by seeing, destroy and completely burn all roots of virtue. Some, through bodily contact with each other, destroy and completely burn all roots of virtue. Some, merely by entering, destroy and completely burn all roots of virtue. Some generate suffering merely by the touch of complete union associated with sexual intercourse, and they experience each suffering individually and accurately. Kauṇḍinya, what is the definite liberation from the attachment to touch? Kauṇḍinya, here one should separately examine the clear image of the skeleton. How so? Wherever one sees an image that is desirable, pleasing, lovely, agreeable, and prone to attachment, and then desires the bliss of liberation from it, one should learn separately and accurately in this way: This image is composed of the four great elements, and its nature is to decay, disintegrate, and separate. How so? There, the skeleton is without hair, without flesh, without nails, without blood, empty, very white like the color of a conch shell, and connected by tendons. One should contemplate in this way, truly understand, thoroughly connect, and bless.
