Having been transmitted by the hand of the great incense elephant, I will speak about bestowing faith upon this assembly. When this teaching was proclaimed, ninety-two kotis of hundreds of thousands of sentient beings abided in the first fruit. Sixty kotis, without grasping, their minds were completely liberated from the outflows. Ninety-nine kotis of hundreds of thousands of sentient beings who had previously performed actions obtained the dharani (Sanskrit: dhāraṇī, Devanagari: धारणी, Romanized Sanskrit: dhāraṇī, literal Chinese meaning: total retention) that accords with emptiness. Eighty thousand living beings obtained the self-arisen dharani (Sanskrit: dhāraṇī, Devanagari: धारणी, Romanized Sanskrit: dhāraṇī, literal Chinese meaning: total retention). There, sixty trillion sentient beings generated the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and became irreversible from unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Then, the assembly endowed with all praised, saying, "Excellent!" A rain of divine flowers and incense manifestly fell. Then, again, the venerable Kaundinya addressed the Blessed One, saying: "Venerable Blessed One, please speak about bestowing faith in this great assembly, this great prophecy, regarding the dharani (Sanskrit: dhāraṇī, Devanagari: धारणी, Romanized Sanskrit: dhāraṇī, literal Chinese meaning: total retention) of no aspiration and accordance, spoken by the Tathagata King of the Accumulation of Wisdom and Glory, transmitted by the hand of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Light of Auspicious Essence." The Blessed One said: "Kaundinya, it is so, it is so. Kaundinya, it is so, it is so. Kaundinya, I shall proclaim the dharani (Sanskrit: dhāraṇī, Devanagari: धारणी, Romanized Sanskrit: dhāraṇī, literal Chinese meaning: total retention) of no aspiration and accordance to this assembly. Kaundinya, in this assembly, there are sentient beings who have previously been purified and are able to fully know this Dharma. Kaundinya, therefore, listen," and so forth, up to the words of the Blessed One addressing him thus. Kaundinya, here, there are sentient beings who do not believe and are truly connected with desire; they do not know well how to escape, and they do not see escape, so they will wander in samsara for a long time, and so forth, up to the words, "What is the escape from desire that is completely conceived by the mind?" and "How should one properly train in this?" The desire for desire and the desire for form.

And, the desire for the formless realm, the desire for form, the desire for touch, the desire for faith, and whatever desires arise from the various thoughts of consciousness, all of these arise from the causes and conditions of the aggregate of formations. Who causes these formations to manifest and gather, and who causes them to manifest and gather? It is the wind that causes them to manifest and gather. My body, speech, and mind's formations, and the wind, should also be completely destroyed. These winds enter and exit from the mouth and nose, and these winds cause them to manifest and gather. These winds themselves will destroy and decompose this body, thinking in this way, one inhales in the mind. The breaths that enter cause the flesh and blood to dry up, causing them to disappear. The breaths that exit cause the flesh and blood to be expelled from the body, until one sees the entire body becoming full of holes. From all the wounds, breath enters and exits, and hair, nails, flesh, and blood are fundamentally extracted and blessed to be thrown out of the body, until all the flesh and blood completely disappear, to the point that the entire body becomes invisible. Only the empty pile of bones remains, appearing white like the color of a conch shell, and one clearly sees them connected by tendons, and one thinks about it, meditates on it, and blesses it, until then. For those who were previously associated with the mind of desire, in meditative absorption, it will become weakened, become thinned. Similarly, for the desire for the form realm, the desire for the formless realm, and similarly, for the desire for form, similarly, for the desire for touch, similarly, for the desire for faith, and the various thoughts of desire, they will become weakened and thinned, until then. Whenever his mind is not maintained in meditative absorption, no matter what kind of condition is encountered again, like in about an hour, for certain things, from "certain forms" to "certain touches," there will be gradual decline. He thinks like this: My kind
