It does not exist in all the worlds. I have used these five examples as metaphors only because they are similar to it. However, for the Bodhisattva who abides here, it should be known that there is no comparison. Question: World Honored One, with what intention does the Thus-Gone One say that liberation is like the extinguishing of an iron lamp? Answer: I do not say that liberation is like the extinguishing of an iron lamp, but rather I refer to the cessation of afflictions. Question: World Honored One, knowing this, why do you not speak of liberation, but speak of the cessation of afflictions? Now you say this, all dharmas are like the moon in water, like an illusion, and the Thus-Gone One has also said so. Answer: To say like the moon in water and like an illusion refers to the cessation of afflictions, not to all dharmas. I say that some dharmas are permanent, and some dharmas are impermanent. Again, the answer: If so, then those beings who belong to the category of liberation are those who have the nature of permanence. I say that those who belong to the category of inanimate and lifeless are those who have the nature of impermanence. Question: Since you teach in the manner of non-existence, with what intention does the World Honored Thus-Gone One demonstrate the manner of the extinguishing of an iron lamp? Answer: What entity is there? Question: There is the container of the oil lamp and the nature of iron. Answer: Great Cloud Heart, good! Good! A Bodhisattva who wishes to observe in that way should observe the Bodhisattva who abides in this samadhi as if observing the nature of an entity. If the Thus-Gone One were to say that the manner in which the lamp is extinguished together with the container of the oil lamp and the nature of iron is the manner of liberation, then in that case, the Thus-Gone One would also become a nihilist. Great Cloud Heart, I did not say that, but rather I said it in the manner of non-existence. What is said to be the manner of the extinguishing of an iron lamp is the term for the complete pacification of afflictions, that is, the term for the existence of an entity. Question: All the Buddhas strive diligently, searching for many billions of kalpas, but they do not

Please, Blessed One, Tathagata, declare the meaning of what they say, "It has been found." The Buddha said: Great Cloud Heart, it is indeed so. All the Tathagatas, even in all existence, through countless billions of kalpas, striving diligently to search, will not find anything that can be identified as sentient beings. For example, a king comes out from among the consorts of his palace, and seeing him go to another place, saying that the king is among the consorts, that is impossible. Likewise, abiding in this samadhi, possessing self, being with sentient beings, abandoning all existence, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva without all afflictions, for the benefit of sentient beings, intermingling and dwelling with the faults of existence, that is impossible. Therefore, the Blessed One said that even in all existence, there is not even a mustard seed of a dharma that is permanent, which indicates that there is no self, sentient being, life, and person, and one should generate the understanding that abiding for a long time is abiding in the Dharma of the Buddha. The Bodhisattva abiding in this samadhi is neither attached nor unattached, nor does he abide in the dharma of closeness, because he is the very permanent, constant, stable, blissful, fearless, without pride, without all afflictions, self, sentient being, life, and person. Great Cloud Heart, therefore I say, he is permanent, constant, and stable. Great Cloud Heart, those monks whom I should take care of in the Hearer Vehicle, you should completely take care of. The permanent, constant, and stable that should be completely taken care of, and the self that should be accepted, you should accept. The permanent, constant, and stable that has become the support of view, rely on it, thus it is taught. The meaning of clarity that I have revealed, revealing it in an unmanifest way, the world cannot comprehend, and those sentient beings with little merit think that liberation is exhausted, and even though the Tathagata exists, they think that he has completely passed away, this is the perception of complete passing away.
