Please grant me. The Blessed One remained silent, and through the power of the Buddha, the Licchavi youth named "Delightful to See by All the World" in the great assembly said to the prophesying Brahmin Kaundinya: Great Brahmin, have you requested a sacred object from the Blessed One? I will bestow a sacred object upon you. The Brahmin said: Licchavi youth, I, for the sake of venerating the relics of the Blessed One, ask you to request a relic the size of a mustard seed from the Blessed One, please give it to me. It is said that if one manifestly venerates a relic the size of a mustard seed, one will become the lord of the Thirty-three Gods, therefore the white powder of the relics is extremely precious. Licchavi youth, listen, the Great Cloud Sutra is difficult for the Shravakas and all Pratyekabuddhas to understand, difficult to comprehend, possessing such characteristics, and it is also said to exist outside the Great Cloud Sutra. Licchavi youth, because the Great Cloud Sutra is so difficult to understand and realize, we Brahmins of the borderlands, even if we put a relic the size of a mustard seed, which can quickly enable beings to attain the lordship of the Thirty-three Gods, into a kapala and wear it, it would be fine. Licchavi youth, why do you not request a relic the size of a mustard seed from the Tathagata, receive it, put it in a kapala, and wear it, thereby becoming the lord of the Thirty-three Gods? Licchavi youth, I request such a sacred object. The Licchavi youth "Delightful to See by All the World" again spoke to the prophesying Brahmin Kaundinya with verses: When and where a blue lotus is born, a bat becomes as large as an elephant, a cuckoo becomes as white as a conch shell, and a jambu tree bears fruit, then relics will exist. When the hairs of a tortoise can be well woven into clothing and worn in winter, then relics will exist. In order to hide the city, when the feet of bees can be well built into a building, stable and immovable, and

On lotus stalks, lotus horns, and so on, You perform the act of empowerment. If there it prospers and grows, Then relics will exist. In order to ascend to the heavens, When will ladders be well-made on rabbit horns? Then relics will exist. When will ladders be climbed there, And mice eat the moon, And also harm Rahu? Then relics will exist. When will swarms of wandering bees Drink the wine from earthenware jars, And dwell in homes? Then relics will exist. When will donkeys become happy, Their red lips resembling bimba fruit, And become skilled in songs and dances? Then relics will exist. When will crows and owls, In secluded places, speak from holes, And without harming each other, In all times, in that place, Always abide? Then relics will exist. When will palasha leaves Become umbrellas of the three jewels, And become a shelter from the rain? Then relics will exist. When will great ocean-going ships, Equipped with wheels and sails, Carry away the faces of evil people? Then relics will exist. When will the kulangaka bird Carry away a fragrant incense mountain, Holding it in its beak? Then relics will exist. The teacher, the prophesying Brahmin Kaundinya Salidtsabi, the youth, who is pleasing to see by all the world, spoke again with these verses: Great youth, well done, well done! Son of the Thus-Gone One, great hero! Brave and skilled in means, Possessing greatness, having received prophecy. The greatness of the Thus-Gone One, Great youth, listen in order. The Buddha-field is inconceivable, Inconceivable wisdom, incomparable. The Thus-Gone Ones are without equal, All Buddhas are always peaceful, All Buddhas arise truly, All Buddhas have the same color, This is the Dharma-nature of the Buddhas. The Buddhas, the Bhagavat, are not artificial, The Thus-Gone Ones are unborn, With bodies as hard as vajras, They also show emanated bodies. Even relics the size of mustard seeds, Will arise, without fail.

How can relics arise from bones without blood or flesh? For the benefit of all sentient beings, relics are established through skillful means. The Bhagavan Buddha is the Dharmakaya, the Tathagata is the essence of the Dharmadhatu. The body of the Bhagavan is such, and the teachings are also such. Thus, as I have heard and contemplated, I request the supreme Dharma to be spoken. To induce you to speak, I initiate this conversation. Thereafter, at that time, the goddess Immaculate Light, having performed the act of offering to the Bhagavan, requested thus: "Bhagavan, how wondrous! These two beings of skillful means are wise and peaceful, and possess profound knowledge. They greatly understand the greatness of the Tathagata's qualities. Bhagavan, who are these two supreme beings? From whence do they come? For the benefit of all sentient beings, please, Bhagavan, explain." The Bhagavan replied: "Goddess, well done! well done! Goddess, it is excellent that you have asked the Tathagata for the benefit of all sentient beings. Goddess, listen! These two great lords are the sons of the Tathagata. Goddess, these two great lords are the lords of supreme beings, those who have made aspirations to delight in samsara, those who repay my kindness to them, my beloved sons, holders of the Shakya lineage and clan, bearers of the burden of my teachings, those who cause the lamp of my teachings to blaze forth, rejoice in them! Goddess, in the past, in bygone times, countless kalpas ago, even more countless, many kalpas ago, at that time, the Tathagata, endowed with knowledge and conduct, the Sugata, the Knower of the World, the unsurpassed Tamer of beings, the Teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha Bhagavan, named Naga-clan Lamp, appeared in the world. Goddess, at that time this Jambudvipa was prosperous, flourishing, bountiful, and delightful, filled with people and multitudes, endowed with happiness and contentment. At that time this Jambudvipa was vast and extensive, with wide waters and great dimensions, one side being sixty million kotis of yojanas.
