We think that we have abandoned the mind of immoral discipline, and we cling to the joy that arises from it. In order to completely abandon the mind of harming others, we generate the thought of patience without patience, and we separately contemplate what is not there. We generate false joy and great joy, and we think that we have abandoned the mind of harming others, and we cling to the joy that arises from it. In order to completely abandon the mind of laziness, we generate the thought of diligence without diligence, and we separately contemplate what is not there. We generate false joy and great joy, and we think that we have abandoned the mind of laziness, and we cling to the joy that arises from it. In order to completely abandon the mind of distraction, we generate the thought of meditation without meditation, and we separately contemplate what is not there. We generate false joy and great joy, and we think that we have abandoned the mind of distraction, and we cling to the joy that arises from it. In order to completely abandon the mind of ignorance, we generate the thought of wisdom without wisdom, and we separately contemplate what is not there. We generate false joy and great joy, and we think that we have abandoned the mind of ignorance, and all those who cling to the joy that arises from it should be regarded in the same way. I will not say to those foolish people that I am practicing the path, because they are called those who have gone astray. Son of good family, for example, if a person is mistaken about the absence of water, he separately contemplates that he has poured out the water, and he generates false joy and great joy, and he clings to the joy that arises from it. Similarly, son of good family, here, some monks, nuns, laymen, and laywomen, because they do not understand the realm of reality of the Dharma of the Tathagata, are mistaken about the fruit of stream-entry when there is no fruit of stream-entry; they are mistaken about the fruit of once-returning when there is no fruit of once-returning; they are mistaken about the fruit of non-returning when there is no fruit of non-returning; they are mistaken about the fruit of Arhatship when there is no fruit of Arhatship; self-

Mistaking the fruit of Arhatship for the fruit of Pratyekabuddhahood when it is not. Mistaking the fruit of Buddhahood for the fruit of Buddhahood when it is not. Mistaking the fruit of Nirvana for the fruit of Nirvana when it is not. While not having attained it, they separately conceptualize it, generating false joy and supreme joy, and clinging to that joy, they consider themselves satisfied. All of these should be regarded as similar. Do not say, "I am practicing the path for those foolish people," for they are called those who have entered wrongly. Son of good family, therefore, sons or daughters of good family who have faith should thoroughly understand all phenomena in the same way that one generates the perception of water in a mirage. Those who thoroughly understand phenomena in this way are those who have truly entered, or those who understand otherwise are not those who have truly entered. Do not say, "I am practicing the path for those foolish people," for they are called those who have entered wrongly. Son of good family, for example, if a woman takes a mirror and examines the marks on her face, and after wiping the mirror very clean, sees a beautiful and pleasing image in it, she thinks, "I should not generate a mind of attachment towards this image." Why? Because this is not mine, and I am not this." She makes such distinctions. Son of good family, what do you think? Does that image Does that woman consider it strange that she does not generate a mind of attachment towards the image? He replied: Blessed One, it is not so. Why? Blessed One, because the image has no conceptualization and is not truly established, therefore it has no conceptualization whatsoever. The Blessed One said: Son of good family, it is just so. Those ignorant common people conceptualize forms, thinking, "These forms are bad, these are mediocre, these are excellent." Although they think in this way, forms themselves do not generate conceptualization towards the nature of form, nor do they conceptualize. They do not conceptualize. Sound, smell, taste, and touch
