To beings who enter the Bhumi Vehicle, you should teach that they cannot regress from the grounds of Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas, and that they cannot attain the dharmas of the Buddhas. Why is that? Ānanda, all dharmas are the dharmas of the Buddhas, because the essence of dharma is equality. Furthermore, Ānanda, you should teach those yogin monks who wish to directly realize Arhatship that attachment, hatred, and delusion cannot be abandoned. Teach that the Tathāgata is invisible, the Dharma is inaudible, and the Sangha is unserviceable. Ānanda, attachment, hatred, and delusion are the only things that cannot be abandoned, because attachment, hatred, and delusion are deceptive. Ānanda, momentary phenomena are not to be abandoned because they do not exist. Then, the venerable Ānanda said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, how is the Tathāgata invisible? How is the Dharma inaudible? How is the Sangha unserviceable?" The Blessed One replied: "Ānanda, the Tathāgata is unteachable, because he cannot be seen with the eye. Ānanda, the Dharma is unspeakable, because it cannot be heard with the ear. Ānanda, the Sangha is unconditioned, therefore it cannot be served by body, speech, or mind." Then, the venerable Ānanda said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, it is wonderful that the nature of the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, is so difficult to understand!" The Blessed One replied: "Ānanda, it is just as you say. In this way, the nature of the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, is difficult to understand. Why is that? Ānanda, the mind must be completely purified from all defilements, and one should not regress from any dharma, nor should one transcend it. Ānanda, those beings who in this way enter and have faith in the Dharma of the Tathāgatas should be known to be wonderful."

O, Ananda, any son of a noble family or daughter of a noble family who, having gone forth in this, my teaching, holds this category of Dharma, or fully understands it, or believes in it, those ones have well eaten the food of the country. Those ones have well gone forth in the teaching of the Thus-Gone One. Those ones have well obtained the attainment of a human body. Those ones have subdued the evil demon. Those ones have certainly destroyed the pride of thinking "I." Those ones have purified the place of giving. Those ones are to be regarded as a place of offerings. Those ones are to be regarded as a field of merit. Why is that? Ananda, this category of Dharma is unbearable for those with manifest pride, and those who focus on the fruit, and those who focus on enlightenment, and those who have not done deeds for the Buddhas of the past. When this category of Dharma is taught, the bodhisattva, with steadfast superior intention, becomes tolerant of the Dharma of non-arising. Then, the Bhagavan smiled at that time. This is the nature of the Buddhas, the Bhagavatans, that when they smile, at that time, from the door of the Bhagavan's face, rays of various colors, various colors such as blue, yellow, red, white, madder, crystal, and the color of silver, arise. Those rays pervade the boundless and limitless world with light, and having gone as far as the world of Brahma, they return and circumambulate the Bhagavan three times, and then sink into the Bhagavan's crown of the head. Then, by the blessing of the Buddha, the venerable Ananda rose from his seat, draped his upper robe over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and, with his palms joined together, bowed down to where the Bhagavan was, and said this to the Bhagavan: O Bhagavan, the Thus-Gone Ones do not smile without a cause or a reason. O Bhagavan, what is the cause of the smile? What is the reason? After he had said this, the Bhagavan said this to the venerable Ananda:

O, Ananda, among this assembly, those two hundred monks who had become conceited with pride, having heard this Dharma without pride, without accepting it, their minds were completely liberated from all defilements. The Bodhisattva with steadfast superior intention obtained tolerance of the Dharma of non-origination. Ananda, this Bodhisattva with steadfast superior intention, after countless eons, will manifest complete and perfect enlightenment. In the universally illuminating eon of all precious jewels, in the world called Adorned with All Flowers, the Thus-Gone One, the Foe Destroyer, the Perfectly and Completely Awakened One, will become the Jewel Lotus Glorious Essence. That Buddha's field will also be endowed with immeasurable qualities and adornments, and that Buddha's field will be completely filled only with Bodhisattvas. Then, the Venerable Ananda said to the Blessed One, "Blessed One, what is the name of this Dharma discourse? How should we hold it?" The Blessed One said, "Therefore, Ananda, you should hold this Dharma discourse as 'All Dharmas are Immovable.' You should also hold it as 'The Chapter of Steadfast Superior Intention.'" After the Blessed One had spoken thus, the Venerable Ananda, and the Bodhisattva Steadfast Superior Intention, and those Bodhisattvas, and those monks, and that entire assembly, together with the gods, humans, asuras, and gandharvas, rejoiced and highly praised what the Blessed One had spoken. The Great Vehicle Sutra, "The Chapter of the Holy Steadfast Superior Intention," is complete. Translated, revised, and finalized by the Indian Abbot Surendrabodhi and Prajnavarman, and the revising translator, the monk Yeshede, and others. Good! The Great Vehicle Sutra, called "The Chapter of the Holy Steadfast Superior Intention."
