full. This sentient being will have virtuous dharmas arise and non-virtuous dharmas cease. This sentient being will have non-virtuous dharmas arise and virtuous dharmas cease. Shariputra! Thus, the Tathagata is skilled in knowing the karma and the various ripenings of karma of those sentient beings. Shariputra! Those sentient beings are ignorant and lack wisdom, but those who possess such wisdom, those who possess such wisdom, declare the inconceivable ripening of karma of sentient beings. Shariputra! Those who have faith will develop faith, and those who do not believe and fall away from this teaching will be reviled and engage in disputes, which will be of no benefit to them for a long time, meaningless, painful, and lead to wrong paths. Shariputra! Those sentient beings who offer lamps to the stupa of the Tathagata, by offering lamps, they have completely offered, definitely offered, accumulated the karma of accumulating virtuous roots, manifestly accumulated, the fruit of ripening, desiring happiness, joy, possessing supreme joy, and having accumulated complete offerings with faith, they will obtain three certain thoughts of the mind in this very life. What are the three? They think thus: I have made offerings to the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly complete Buddha, having obtained a body, knowing the body with essence and without essence, I shall give the essence. Thinking of the enjoyments as having faults, giving the essence to the enjoyments without essence. Shariputra! This is the first certain thought of the mind of offering to the stupa of the Tathagata. Shariputra! Furthermore, they think thus: I have made offerings to the field of merit, the unsurpassed object of offerings, the receiver of excellent gifts, and I have no fear of the hells, or fear of the animal realm, or fear of the realm of Yama. My happy migrations are five: either obtaining the heavens, or not obtaining the heavens, or obtaining the form realm, or obtaining enjoyments.

Or, thinking that one can attain Bodhi, this is Shariputra's determination of mind to make offerings to the Tathagata's stupa, obtaining the second kind of mind. Shariputra, furthermore, offering lamps to the Tathagata's stupa, being fully established in this. If I have given alms, I have also done meritorious deeds, I have abandoned stinginess, thus knowing. He thinks like this: I am a giver, and I have also given alms. Thinking like this, there is no complete suffering for giving, no contempt. Shariputra, this is the third kind of determination of mind obtained by making offerings to the Tathagata's stupa. Shariputra, a son of good family or a daughter of good family who offers lamps to the Tathagata's stupa obtains three appearances at the time of death. What are the three? Good deeds become manifest, one obtains mindfulness, and one will not forget good deeds. Shariputra, thus at the time of death, remembering the roots of virtue planted for the Tathagata, this is the first appearance. Shariputra, furthermore, a sentient being who has made offerings to the Tathagata's stupa will remember at the time of death, I have made offerings to the Buddha, thereby obtaining great joy. Shariputra, thus generating a mind accompanied by remembering the Buddha, this is the second appearance. Shariputra, furthermore, when that sentient being sees other sentient beings giving alms at the time of death, he will think like this: I have offered lamps, and I will give alms in the future. Thus, the mind of giving arises, and he will not be robbed by painful feelings, and such a remembrance of the Dharma will arise for him. Shariputra, thus, properly attending to the roots of virtue, this is the third appearance obtained. Shariputra, furthermore, a son of good family or a daughter of good family who offers lamps to the Tathagata's stupa obtains four appearances at the time of death. What are the four? Seeing the disc of the sun appearing in front, and the disc of the full moon appearing in front.

Seeing, seeing the retinue of the gods abiding, and seeing the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly complete Buddha, residing at the heart of enlightenment, and manifestly realizing enlightenment and becoming a Buddha. Seeing oneself abiding in reverence towards him, and seeing oneself with palms joined. Shariputra, by offering a lamp to the stupa of the Tathagata, one will obtain these four lights at the time of death. The Blessed One spoke thus, and after the Sugata spoke thus, the Teacher also spoke thus: To the boundless Dharma Lord, the great sage, In the stupas, whoever is wise, By the deed of offering lamps, Boundless bliss, meaning, and gain are obtained. He will not lose mindfulness at the time of death, He will also see himself offering lamps. He will also obtain the four joys without defilement, At the time of death, he will not be confused. He will also know all the lights, He will also see the sun and the moon. He will also see billions of gods, Without confusion, he will also speak the Buddha's Dharma. Even if parents, children, relatives, And all the retinue surround him and weep, He will not turn his mind towards them, At that time, he will never lose mindfulness. Before him, he will see immeasurable excellent mansions, He will also see fearless goddesses, Four gardens, exceedingly beautiful and adorned, He will also see the five desirable qualities complete. By making offerings to the supreme beings, the capable ones, He will see the Sugata at the heart of enlightenment, He will also see himself with palms joined in reverence, Gods, nagas, and asuras will see him in front. With reverence, he will see the guide of the world, Having gone there and seen the Sugata, With joy, at that time, he will also shed tears, He will grant the measure of an umbrella. Having been satisfied with the bliss of individual attainment, At the time of death, he will not experience suffering, His mind will also rejoice in the supreme, excellent enlightenment, He will not experience great fear at the time of death. This is the ripening result of offering lamps, At the time of death, his mindfulness will not decline, All directions will become bright for him, He will see all the beautiful forms that he had not seen before.
