Having gone there and sat on the laid seat, he spoke to that householder's son about the teachings of having few desires, the teachings of contentment, the teachings of discipline, the faults of bustle, the praises of delighting in solitude, and the praises of being without bustle. In front of that householder's son, speaking ill of the Bodhisattva Delightful Empowerment, that monk led many people astray. That monk caused many people to have wrong views. That monk acted amidst bustle, teaching that desire has no obscuration, that hatred has no obscuration, that delusion has no obscuration, that all dharmas have no obscuration. And when he said these things, that householder's son, being sharp-witted and having attained patience, said to that monk: Venerable, how do you know desire? He said: Householder's son, desire is known as complete affliction. He said: Venerable, is desire inside or outside? He said: Desire is neither inside nor outside. He said: Venerable, if that is so, desire is neither inside nor outside, neither in the east, nor in the south, nor in the west, nor in the north, neither above nor below, nor in any direction. If that is so, then it is unborn. And for that which is unborn, what affliction or purification is there? Then, that monk, having heard that teaching by Victorious Intellect, became agitated and very displeased. Without even taking alms, he rose from his seat and left. He also spoke these words: Alas, that monk has led many people astray! Having said this, he left that house and went to another monastery. Afterwards, he went to the temple and also told the remaining monks. In the Sangha, when he saw that monk again, he said: This monk leads many people astray, this monk causes many people to have wrong views, this

He showed that there is no obscuration of desire. He showed that there is no obscuration of hatred. He showed that there is no obscuration of delusion. He showed that there is no obscuration of all dharmas. Then, the Bodhisattva Extremely Joyful Power thought to himself: "This monk must have inevitably accumulated karmic obscurations without avoiding them, so I should speak profound words to him. Even if he cannot do it, it will become a cause for him to meditate on the dharmas of the aspect of enlightenment." Then, the Bodhisattva Extremely Joyful Power gathered all the Sangha of monks together, and at that time he spoke these verses: Desire is said to be nirvana, Hatred and delusion are the same, Enlightenment is the place of those, Buddha and enlightenment are inconceivable. By what desire is discriminated, Hatred and delusion are the same, Buddha and enlightenment are far from that, Like the difference between heaven and earth. Enlightenment and desire are not two, The entrance is the same, possessing equality, Those children who are afraid of this dharma, Those are far from Buddha and enlightenment. Desire is not born and does not perish, The mind is also not defiled by afflictions, Whoever is attached to the object of focus, That desire and evil realms cause them to fall. Whoever's dharma of desire is also the Buddha's dharma, There is no difference between them, One letter, one meaning, without characteristics, Knowing thus, one becomes the Sugata. Breaking vows and discriminating vows, Whoever is intoxicated by pride in vows, For those who dwell on the view of the object, There is no enlightenment and no Buddha's dharma. Whoever speculates on the place of solitude, Praising himself and disparaging others, For those who dwell on the view of solitude, If there is no heaven, where is enlightenment? It is said that the view of enlightenment is non-dual, Names and letters, numbers and sounds enter, Whoever truly understands those, For them, Buddha and enlightenment are not far. Discriminating against afflictions, Whichever child is attached to the view of purification, For those who dwell on the view of the object, There is no enlightenment and no Buddha's dharma.
