Thus it is known. We should be skilled in meditating on the yoga of formlessness, and should not be attached to the characteristics of form. If someone is attached to the characteristics of form, it is called attachment to form. We should be very skilled in entering into the characteristics of form. When a Bodhisattva contemplates in this way, as it is, he understands the distinctions of form as they are, and knows that the aggregates of form also arise from the perceptions discriminated by individual ordinary beings. Thus, since all phenomena arise from discriminated perceptions, they are unborn. All discriminated perceptions are not real, and ordinary beings rely on perversion to generate form, and are bound by form. Afflicted by form, tormented by suffering, they wander in samsara. Blinded by ignorance and delusion, they cling to form and do not let go, seeing form as permanent, solid, and having essence. Thus, ordinary beings are bound by the bonds of form, and constantly wander in the realms of sentient beings, hell-beings, animals, pretas, gods, and humans. They are extremely attached to the taste of form, and do not see the many faults and defects in that form. We should not follow the example of individual ordinary beings, but should examine and meditate on the distinctions of the yoga of form. When contemplating the distinctions of form, one sees the nature of form as being like a dream. For example, seeing form in a dream arises from discriminated perceptions, feelings, and thoughts, and also generates seeing, hearing, feeling, knowing, and dependent origination, and one also knows self and other. One also sees earth, water, fire, and wind. One also sees mountains, rivers, forests, and so on. Thus, the characteristics of form in a dream have no definite certainty, and the arising of the characteristics of the aggregates of form from discriminated perceptions is also the same, arising from the causes and conditions of previous karma, and is not of a definite nature. When Bodhisattvas contemplate in this way,

One should not take form as self or as belonging to self. One should contemplate form as it truly is. One should contemplate its characteristic of impermanence as it truly is, and if one does not contemplate it truly, one contemplates it perversely. Beings, deluded by perversion, cling to and grasp form as my form, belonging to me, another's form, or belonging to another. Thus, when contemplating the differentiation of form, one does not perceive form, does not see the nature of form, and does not cling to the impermanence of form. When a Bodhisattva at that time eliminates all attachment and clinging to form and makes it cease to exist, then he is extremely skilled in the true nature of form. He knows the nature of the equality of form. He knows the nature of the cessation of form. He is skilled in the nature of the path of the cessation of form. He fully understands that the aggregate of form does not come from anywhere, nor does it go anywhere. When contemplating in this way, one knows that the body and the aggregate of form are the ripening of the fruit of karma, born from discrimination, and arising from the union of the four great elements. The aggregate of form of the body is not self, not other, and without a master, it does not come from anywhere. By contemplating the aggregate of form in this way, one does not cling to inner form, nor grasp it; one does not cling to outer form, nor grasp it; one does not cling to past form, nor grasp it; one does not cling to future form, nor grasp it; nor does one cling to present form, nor grasp it. One knows that all aggregates of form are of the nature of non-arising. Thus, at that time, the Bodhisattva does not seek the non-cessation of form, but seeks the Dharma of the cessation of form. Holder of the World! Thus, Bodhisattvas, great beings, contemplate the differentiation of form. Holder of the World! How do Bodhisattvas, great beings, contemplate the differentiation of the aggregate of feeling that is closely taken? The Bodhisattva thinks thus: This feeling of pleasure, feeling of pain, and feeling that is neither pleasure nor pain, arise from dependent origination, relying on causes and conditions. If one enters into the nature of feeling, then there is no feeler there, only clinging. That clinging is not real, it is

arisen from unreal parikalpita. When the bodhisattva thinks in this way, he also thinks in this way: Ordinary beings are bound by feelings of unreal parikalpita, and are tormented by three kinds of feelings. What are the three? Namely, pleasant feelings, painful feelings, and neither pleasant nor painful feelings. If ordinary beings feel pleasure, they are driven by the affliction of desire. Because of the proximity of desire to affliction, they generate various kinds of unwholesome karma. If they feel pain, they are driven by the affliction of hatred. Because of the proximity of hatred to affliction, they generate various kinds of unwholesome karma. If they feel neither pleasant nor painful feelings, they are driven by the affliction of ignorance. Because of the proximity of ignorance to affliction, they are not liberated from regretful sorrow, lamentation, and suffering. I should not follow the example of ordinary beings, but should examine the reality of all dharmas. We should examine feelings as they really are. Having examined the skandha of feelings as they really are, the bodhisattvas think again: The non-skandha is the skandha of feelings, which arises from discrimination. There is no agent of feelings that is associated with perversion, but it arises from the cause of past karma. The feelings are experienced by present conditions. Because they are empty by nature, there is no characteristic of feeling in feeling. When the bodhisattvas contemplate the skandha of feelings, it arises and ceases like a water bubble. Just as it is destroyed without necessarily being cut off, so too is the skandha of feelings. It arises from the connection of causes and conditions, and because it depends on causes and conditions, it does not remain for even a moment. It arises from the perversion of unreal discrimination. At that time, the bodhisattvas also think: Ordinary beings are objects of compassion. Because they do not understand the skandha of feelings as it really is, they are afflicted by feelings. Happiness
