May I receive teachings in any way. When the rays of light previously spoken by the Buddha, the Bhagavan, shine down, may I be in that light. May I, as a woman, obtain the dharani that comprehends all dharanis. When great terror occurs in Li-yul (Khotan, Xinjiang Hotan), in order to protect the entire land of Khotan, and in order to make the Dharma abide for a long time, may all the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, think of me, and please also indicate the method, and may the gods also grant sacred things. Likewise, may I appear as an ordinary woman, like other human women there. May I also obtain the blessing of abiding upon the rays of light of the Buddhas. In order to liberate those beings threatened by harm, those beings afflicted by disease, and those beings suffering, from all suffering, may I also obtain those dharanis and mantras. When those great kings fight each other, and when the Tibetans (Gdong-dmar) seize the land of Khotan, may I also be reborn there as a woman. May I uphold the great sutra, the sacred Lotus Sutra, spoken by all the Buddhas, the Bhagavat. May I also comprehend the dharanis and mantras that arise from this sutra. In order to subdue beings, may I also comprehend the samadhi that comprehends all sounds. May I benefit all beings with the Dharma teachings of the Lotus Sutra. May I also perform Dharma giving and offerings to the gods who are the guardians of Khotan. May this great sutra, the sacred Lotus Sutra, and those gods who proclaim and uphold this sutra, all be under my control. At that time, when she takes birth, in order to help us, please act as a guardian, and remember that you have received the entrustment of the Great Vehicle Sutra, the sacred White Lotus Dharma, and the Buddha Bhagavan of the land of Li (Khotan). At that time, the thirty-two kings of the gods, having heard this vow of the goddess, prayed thus: When this goddess takes birth in order to protect the land of Li (Khotan), in order to protect the country and accomplish it as desired, we, together with our retinue, will also provide assistance. At that time, the goddess Immaculate Light rose from her seat, draped her upper garment over one shoulder, placed the kneecap of her right knee on the ground, folded her palms, prayed to the Bhagavan, and made aspirations before the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, may I regard all sentient beings as if they were my only child! May all the efforts I undertake be successful! May my body be steadfast, my mind firm, may I accomplish the benefit of sentient beings, fulfill my aspirations completely, and exert myself diligently for the sake of the country! May I benefit sentient beings with the sacred White Lotus Dharma Sutra, and also attain samadhi! Thus spoke the goddess. When the goddess spoke thus before the Bhagavan, a rain of divine flowers fell upon the Bhagavan and the goddess Immaculate Light. At that time, Goddess Immaculate Light, the beautiful abode of the Bodhisattva, may you be born in Li (Khotan)! She made aspirations before the Buddhas. For as long as the teachings of the Protector Shakya Simha remain, until that time, may I also constantly take birth there. In the presence of the Buddhas, when the goddess made aspirations, all the Buddhas residing in the Buddha-fields gave the response of "Excellent!" The Buddhas gave the response of "Excellent!" to the goddess as the guardian of the land, and Vaishravana and the Lord of Yakshas, as well as the Ever-Victorious One, heard it. At that time, Vaishravana and the other gods who were assembled there, requested the Bhagavan with words: In order to completely protect the land of Li (Khotan), please choose the most excellent of the gods.
