That (Bodhisattva's) ear faculty becomes renowned. He hears all those sounds, but does not differentiate them, and believes that all sounds are unspeakable, believing that (the essence of sound) is inexpressible. He does not cling to those sounds as self, or cling to them as sentient beings, or cling to them as sounds, but thoroughly understands that all sounds have no beginning and no end of expression, and believes that all dharmas are inexpressible. His ear faculty's consciousness realm becomes unobstructed, and after hearing those sounds, he can also thoroughly understand what the meaning of those sounds is. What is the meaning of sounds? The meaning of all sounds is the unspeakable meaning, the inexpressible meaning, and the meaning of all sounds is the meaning of peace. He will rely on that meaning to trust in meaning. Even if he hears all sounds, he will not abide in anything, because all dharmas have not arisen. In the countless and infinite realms of the ten directions, all the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who abide and exist, and all the dharmas taught by those Buddhas who teach the Dharma, his ears can hear. He will not be obscured or entangled, he hears all those dharmas, and remembers how he heard them. After remembering, he will not forget any dharma. How can he not forget any dharma? Because he will not fail to understand any words, so he will not forget. All those defiled dharmas, or undefiled dharmas, or conditioned dharmas and unconditioned dharmas, or worldly dharmas and supramundane dharmas, or virtuous dharmas and non-virtuous dharmas, or culpable dharmas and blameless dharmas, or dharmas corresponding to the Hearer Vehicle, or dharmas corresponding to the Solitary Buddha Vehicle, or dharmas corresponding to the Great Vehicle, after hearing them, like this, because the nature of solitude is one, all those dharmas merge into the taste of the self-nature of one dharma. He hears and expounds the Dharma, but does not cling to any object. Although he hears the Dharma, he does not exist together with all the characteristics. He relies on the Dharma, and does not rely on non-dharma. What is Dharma? Dharma is freedom from desire. Dharma is without characteristics. Dharma is

Being is the unconditioned. The term "dharma" means boundless, incomparable, immutable, without object, unborn, uncreated. Whoever is without arrogance, without discrimination, without concept, without mental fabrication of elaboration, without acceptance, without rejection towards such a dharma, that is called "dharma." Therefore, one should rely on the meaning, not on the words. Abandoning the words is also not relying on the meaning. One should listen to the dharma with a mind that accords with the meaning. How is a mind that accords with the meaning? Whoever does not fall into views through the meaning of emptiness, does not fall into signs through the meaning of signlessness, and does not fall into aspirations through the meaning of wishlessness, like that is a mind that accords with the meaning. From whom one listens to the dharma, and from whom one relies on the meaning, one should also not fixate on the meaning. Because that which is without object will not become an object. Therefore, one should listen to the dharma from the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, and rely on the sutras of definitive meaning, not on the sutras of provisional meaning. What are the sutras of definitive meaning? Because they are inexpressible, all sutras are of definitive meaning. Like that, one relies on the sutras of definitive meaning. Those who do not rely on these sutras of definitive meaning are called provisional. Why are they called provisional? Because they abide in a dharma that contradicts the definitive meaning, therefore those need to be corrected. What is used to correct them? Words are used to correct them. Those who rely on the sutras of definitive meaning are not corrected by words. Why is that? Because they realize the ultimate truth is inexpressible, and they know all phenomena of the past, future, and present without increase or decrease. King of Illusions, in this form of meaning, if one relies on this nature of phenomena in this way, then all sutras will become definitive. If one does not rely in this way, then all sutras will become provisional. King of Illusions, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva listens to the dharma from the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, one should rely on wisdom, not on discriminating consciousness. Why is that? Because he sees discriminating consciousness as like an illusion.
