These are the actions of pride. To the extent that generosity falls into views, that is the action of pride. To the extent that discipline becomes clinging to concepts, that is the action of pride. To the extent that patience abides in self and others, that is the action of pride. To the extent that diligence focuses on body and mind, that is the action of pride. To the extent that it becomes meditation of thought, discrimination, and complete conceptualization, that is the action of pride. To the extent that it becomes wisdom generated by self and what belongs to self, that is the action of pride. Thinking "I am a Bodhisattva" is the action of pride. Thinking "I have entered into enlightenment" is the action of pride. Thinking "I will not cut off the lineage of the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha" is the action of pride. Thinking "I have truly engaged in the benefit of sentient beings" is the action of pride. Thinking "I liberate those who are not liberated, I free those who are not freed, I relieve those who are not relieved, and I lead those who have not entered Nirvana into Nirvana," that is the action of pride. Thinking "I am the master of generosity, I possess discipline, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom," that is the action of pride. Thinking "I abide in loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity," that is the action of pride. Thinking "I am one who has few desires, is content, and delights in solitude," that is the action of pride. To assume oneself to be a speaker on the place of giving, to assume oneself to be a hermit, to restrain possessions, to be arrogant and to generate discriminating thoughts, that is the action of pride. Thinking "I abide in emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness," that is the action of pride. Thinking "I am a speaker of truth, a speaker of reality, one who acts according to what is said," that is the action of pride. Thinking "I have completely transcended the actions of the demons, I am separated from the four demons and all views, and I practice patience in the unborn," that is the action of pride. Thinking "Having realized enlightenment, I will turn the wheel of the Dharma,

And after circling (in samsara), thinking to liberate all sentient beings from samsara and bring them completely into the realm of nirvana without remainder. All such arrogant thoughts and discriminations are actions of pride. King of Emanations, the more one clings to the mind, the higher or lower the mind is, the more one discriminates and thinks, the more it is an action of pride. King of Emanations, then, what is the action of wisdom? Whatever has no clinging of mind, no thought, no discrimination, that is the action of wisdom. He also performs all the actions done by wisdom. What is the action of a Bodhisattva? Whatever is done by a Bodhisattva is the action of a Bodhisattva. The actions of a Bodhisattva are of two kinds. What are the two? Namely: to bring all sentient beings to complete maturity, and to fully uphold the sacred Dharma. Just as I understand it, I bring sentient beings to complete maturity. Then, how do I understand it? I understand that "I" has no place. Whoever understands that "I" has no place has no clinging, no discrimination, no thought. That is how he brings sentient beings to complete maturity. Then, how does one fully uphold the sacred Dharma? Whatever does not cling to all dharmas, that is fully upholding the sacred Dharma. Clinging to form is not fully upholding the sacred Dharma. Clinging to feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness is not fully upholding the sacred Dharma. Similarly, clinging to the elements, the sources, name and form is not fully upholding the sacred Dharma. Clinging to virtuous and non-virtuous dharmas is not fully upholding the sacred Dharma. Clinging to what is with fault and without fault, clinging to what is with outflows and without outflows, clinging to worldly and transworldly dharmas is not fully upholding the sacred Dharma. Clinging to the sign of generosity is not fully upholding the sacred Dharma. Clinging to the signs of discipline, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom is not fully upholding the sacred Dharma.
