These four dharmas are such. To this, it is said: Meditating on the four dhyanas ascertained by the signless emptiness, constantly possessing compassion in order to completely protect sentient beings, not interrupting the lineage of the Three Jewels and attaining diligence, constantly possessing skillful means and engaging in the six perfections. Thus, those who are skilled in conduct, endowed with wisdom, great masters, and subdue their minds, they completely transcend the four maras, and place the unprotected beings seized by the iron hook of the maras on the path to nirvana. Son of the gods, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who possesses four dharmas is one who is difficult to fathom with wisdom. What are the four? They are engaging in the manner of profound Dharma, constantly possessing meaning and being difficult to approach, constantly generating faith and contemplating Dharma, and with the mind, definitely understanding the Buddha's stainless wisdom. These four dharmas are such. To this, it is said: Having entered into the manner of profound Dharma, constantly possessing meaning and being difficult to approach, constantly generating faith and engaging in contemplation of Dharma, whoever definitely understands with the mind, those skillful ones abide firmly in the Great Vehicle, and with pure wisdom, they are exceedingly difficult to fathom, and they truly accomplish uncontaminated wisdom, therefore they are difficult to fathom with pure wisdom. Son of the gods, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who possesses four dharmas is one who is not defiled by the eight worldly dharmas. What are the eight? They are gain, fame, praise, and not being filled with happiness, not gaining, not being famous, blame, and not being diminished by suffering, and in order to completely ripen sentient beings, they completely utilize the aggregates, and protect the aggregates of complete knowledge and contemplate solitude. These four dharmas are such. To this, it is said: Having obtained wealth, fame, praise, and all happiness, yet they are never filled with them. Not obtaining wealth, not being famous, blame, and suffering, yet they engage in the world without attachment like a lotus. In order to ripen sentient beings, they completely utilize the aggregates, and nouris

How can one know its true nature? Although acting in the world for the benefit and happiness of sentient beings, one is not stained by worldly dharmas and possesses the fragrance of morality. Son of the gods, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, if endowed with four qualities, can act in the immeasurable and profound. What are the four? Understanding no-self in oneself, understanding no sentient beings in sentient beings, understanding the emptiness of dharmas, and understanding no attachment in knowledge. These are the four qualities. Regarding this, it should be said: Having fully understood no-self in oneself, having realized no sentient beings in sentient beings, having fully understood the emptiness of all dharmas, like a hand in the sky, wisdom has no attachment. The brave ones act in the profound, constantly acting in non-action, being free from grasping and all grasping, therefore, the pure sentient beings are immeasurable. Son of the gods, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, if endowed with four qualities, can skillfully subdue sentient beings through teaching the Dharma. What are the four? Obtaining supernormal powers, knowing individual correct knowledge, having sharp wisdom, and having pure past aspirations. These are the four qualities. Regarding this, it should be said: Having fully obtained supernormal powers, knowing individual correct knowledge inexhaustibly with wisdom, constantly having sharp wisdom, and having obtained the complete purification of the accumulations of the past. Having fully understood the faculties of sentient beings, one teaches the dharmas that are similar to them. These teachings are not without fruit, therefore, they cause those who have already attained Nirvana to attain Nirvana. Son of the gods, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, if endowed with four qualities, can enter the gate of liberation without being defiled by conditioned phenomena. What are the four? Having emptiness as the field of activity, liberating sentient beings bound by the fetters of views, abiding in the signless, causing those who act in conceptualization to attain Nirvana, abiding in the wishless, intentionally taking birth in order to ripen sentient beings, and being skilled in means and having the ascertainment of wisdom.
