Therefore, listen well and thoroughly, and keep it in mind. I will tell you how Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas can attain those distinctions of qualities and other qualities as well. The son of the gods, Rabtsal Semkyi, said to the Bhagavan: 'Thus, O Bhagavan.' Then he listened to the Bhagavan's teachings. The Bhagavan spoke thus: 'Son of the gods, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva possesses four qualities, they are those who do not rely on the Great Vehicle. What are the four? They are the wisdom attained through skillful means, the love attained through great compassion, the fearlessness attained through meaning and dharma, and the five superknowledges attained through the aspects of the limbs of enlightenment. Son of the gods, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva possesses these four qualities, they are those who do not rely on the Great Vehicle.' To this it is said: 'The manifest wisdom that is attained through skillful means is understood and comprehended; for the sake of protecting all, in the vast expanse of great compassion, the love in which one abides is attained; one becomes extremely skilled in meaning and dharma, and attains fearlessness in individual correct knowledge; on the path to enlightenment, one guides with pure superknowledges, thus one will not rely on others.' 'Son of the gods, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva possesses four qualities, they are those who are steadfast in diligence in all undertakings. What are the four? They are irreversible diligence, asceticism with pure intention, possessing a strong desire for enlightenment, and not being weary of accomplishing the Buddha's teachings. Son of the gods, if a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva possesses these four qualities, they are steadfast in diligence in all undertakings.' To this it is said: 'Diligence is steadfast and well-established, without wavering; intention is without defilement, completely pure; for the sake of the Buddha's wisdom, possessing a strong desire that is renowned; desiring the Buddha's teachings, and never weary. Whoever possesses these four vast and extraordinary qualities,

In the path to enlightenment, manifestation becomes stable and unchanging, the limbs of enlightenment appear as if placed in the palm of one's hand, and soon one will become the Dharma king of the three realms. Son of the gods, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who possesses four qualities is one who is manifestly superior through merit. What are the four? Bodhisattvas exhort beings to engage in the Perfection of Wisdom, cause those beings who have not generated the mind of enlightenment to generate the mind of enlightenment, completely dedicate the three times as if they were an illusion, and, without separating from the mind of enlightenment, manifestly accumulate the generation of all roots of virtue. These are the four qualities they possess. Regarding this, it is said: Those wise ones who exhort the Perfection of Wisdom, those who have entered enlightenment cause others to hold the mind of enlightenment, those who have entered enlightenment rejoice in the three times, their minds are not scattered, like an illusion, they desire enlightenment, whatever small virtue they perform, they rely on the mind of omniscience. Son of the gods, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who possesses four qualities is one who acts without attachment through wisdom. What are the four? Acting with wisdom like the actions of children, not acting with arrogance, knowing that all phenomena depend on conditions, are without blessing, and are separate from persons, emptiness becomes the field of action, possessing the intention not to abandon all beings, completely transcending all attachments, and guarding the complete knowledge of the six sense sources. These are the four qualities they possess. Regarding this, it is said: Those who act with wisdom have no arrogance, they are skilled in dependence and have no bias, emptiness is their field of action, they do not abandon beings, they transcend all attachments and dwell within and without, they are extremely well-established in these four supreme qualities, they cross to the other shore with wisdom and act without attachment. Son of the gods, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who possesses four qualities is one who is free from the darkness of wisdom. What are the four? Never being satisfied with listening and diligently applying proper attention, teaching the Dharma with a mind free from corruption, and the realm of the Dharma,

In order to know the absence of something, to individually discern all afflictions as being like illusions, and to enter into all entries by entering into one way. To be in accordance with these four dharmas. To this, it should be said: They listen, seek without satiety, properly contemplate and realize, they equally proclaim and recite, and do not seek the dharma of holding and finding. View afflictions as clouds, illusions, and dreams, do not differentiate the nature of dharmas, they enter into one way. Relying on these great four dharmas, one will obtain excellence, wisdom like a lamp dispels darkness, like the moon shines upon the world. Son of the gods, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva possesses four dharmas, then among all retinues they are the ones who are free from fear. What are the four? That is, obtaining the dharani that holds all that is heard, obtaining the fearlessness that cuts off the doubts of all sentient beings, and the great compassion that shows the selflessness to all sentient beings, and donning the armor of manifest knowledge that is free from demons and afflictions. To be in accordance with these four dharmas. To this, it should be said: Obtaining the dharani that does not exhaust all that is heard, they are fearless, cutting off the doubts of sentient beings. With compassion, they show that all these dharmas are selfless, donning the armor of manifest knowledge, they are not harmed by demons. If a Bodhisattva enters with these four dharmas, even if they enter into all retinues, they have no fear. Son of the gods, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva possesses four dharmas, then they are the ones who rely on hearing to understand the meaning. What are the four? That is, because of hearing, they do not hold onto everything, so they are not in accordance with hearing, and they completely abandon all children who have fallen from practice, in order to manifestly know all the paths of letters, sounds, languages, and words, understanding their nature as being the same as an echo, and because of desiring meaning, not being happy to completely seek hearing, but entering into the meaning that cannot be spoken, and not the meaning of speech. To be in accordance with these four dharmas. To this, it should be said: No matter how much one hears, one does not contemplate its meaning, children do not possess hearing, and constantly lose the dharma of practice. The sounds, languages, voices, and word paths of the three realms, understand them from that as being like an echo.
