Because of separation, one does not abide in conditioned phenomena, and by realizing unconditioned phenomena, one does not fall into unconditioned phenomena. Son of the gods, for example, a great strong man shoots an arrow into the sky, and that arrow neither stays in the sky nor falls to the ground, son of the gods, is there any slight difficulty in that? The son of the gods said: Manjushri, it is difficult. Manjushri said: Son of the gods, even more difficult than that is when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva does not abandon conditioned phenomena, and also attains unconditioned phenomena, and also does not fall into unconditioned phenomena, and also completely matures those who have attained conditioned phenomena. The son of the gods said: Manjushri, is the destruction of a Bodhisattva conditioned phenomena? Or is it unconditioned phenomena? From where does it arise? Manjushri said: Son of the gods, the destruction of a Bodhisattva can arise from conditioned phenomena, and it can also arise from unconditioned phenomena. Why is that? Son of the gods, from conditioned phenomena arises the destruction of afflictions, and from unconditioned phenomena arises the destruction of non-afflictions. The son of the gods said: Manjushri, what is the destruction of non-afflictions? Manjushri said: Son of the gods, in the three realms there is the destruction of afflictions, and if a Bodhisattva does not become afflicted in the three realms, then he will become a Shravaka. The son of the gods said: Manjushri, how is it that a Bodhisattva has no destruction? Manjushri said: Son of the gods, when a Bodhisattva practices conditioned phenomena with the knowledge of wisdom, and does not fall into unconditioned phenomena with the knowledge of skillful means, then, son of the gods, that Bodhisattva has no destruction. Son of the gods, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva does not abandon conditioned phenomena by looking at sentient beings, and does not fall into unconditioned phenomena by looking at the Dharma of the Buddhas, then, son of the gods, that Bodhisattva has no destruction. Son of the gods, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva engages in conditioned phenomena for the sake of accumulating the accumulation of merit, and does not fall into unconditioned phenomena for the sake of accumulating the accumulation of the wisdom of the Buddhas, then that Bodhisattva has no destruction.

Furthermore, son of the gods, at what time does a Bodhisattva abide in the unconditioned, generate all the meditations, abide in skillful means and turn away from all the meditations? At that time, the Bodhisattva is indestructible. Furthermore, son of the gods, at what time does a Bodhisattva abide in the mind of enlightenment, cause the roots of virtue to increase, abide in great compassion, and cause all sentient beings to ripen? At that time, the Bodhisattva is indestructible. Furthermore, son of the gods, at what time does a Bodhisattva abide in solitude, realize all the deeds of the demons, abide in skillful means and abandon all the deeds of the demons? At that time, the Bodhisattva is indestructible. Furthermore, son of the gods, at what time does a Bodhisattva abide in great love and teach the Dharma, abide in great compassion and give material gifts? At that time, the Bodhisattva is indestructible. Furthermore, son of the gods, at what time does a Bodhisattva abide in samsara and perform the deeds of completely practicing nirvana, abide in nirvana and perform the deeds of completely practicing samsara? By that alone, the Bodhisattva is indestructible. Furthermore, son of the gods, at what time does a Bodhisattva cause birth by being unborn, cause appearance by being immutable, illuminate by viewing the Dharma, is not distinguished by aggregates, elements, and sense bases, is connected with all and is peaceful, has become nearly peaceful, blazes, blazes without burning, completely purifies all afflictions, is not stained by the faults of afflictions, tames those who are learning and those who are not learning, does not touch the liberation of the Hearers, enters the minds of sentient beings, does not abandon the thought of Dharma, knows the iron hook of the demons, does not abandon the iron hook of Dharma, enters with knowledge, turns away with skillful means, shows the form of the noble ones, and delights in causing the non-noble ones to ripen?

Just by being delighted to see the Buddha and always desiring to see the Dharma, the Bodhisattva is imperishable. When Manjushri Kumara was expounding this teaching, fifty thousand sons of the gods developed a pure Dharma eye, free from dust and defilement, towards all dharmas. Twenty-five thousand sons of the gods, without grasping, had their minds completely liberated from the outflows. Fifty thousand Bodhisattvas, who had previously planted roots of virtue, attained the highest forbearance of the unborn Dharma. Twenty thousand Bodhisattvas generated unobstructed confidence. From the multitude of gods and humans, countless thousands of beings generated the mind of enlightenment and made divine offerings to the Tathagata and Manjushri Kumara. Furthermore, the son of the gods, Excellent Intellect, said this to Manjushri Kumara: Manjushri, how does a Bodhisattva abide on the path? Manjushri said: Son of the gods, when a Bodhisattva teaches the Dharma in order to abandon desire, but does not manifest the abandonment of desire; teaches the Dharma in order to abandon hatred, but does not manifest the abandonment of hatred; teaches the Dharma in order to abandon delusion, but does not manifest the abandonment of delusion; teaches the Dharma in order to abandon afflictions, but does not manifest the abandonment of afflictions, just by that, son of the gods, the Bodhisattva abides on the path. Son of the gods, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva teaches emptiness to sentient beings, but does not manifest emptiness; teaches signlessness to sentient beings, but does not manifest signlessness; teaches wishlessness to sentient beings, but does not manifest wishlessness; similarly, teaches non-fabrication, non-arising, non-emergence, non-thingness, detachment from desire and non-association, and the Dharma of cessation to sentient beings, but does not manifest cessation, just by that, the Bodhisattva abides on the path.
