Knowing there is no birth and no death; knowing the aggregates are like illusions; knowing the elements are inseparable from the realm of Dharma; knowing the sense bases are like empty villages; knowing the various distinctions of all phenomena; knowing the superior and non-superior faculties of sentient beings; knowing that memory has no forgetting; knowing that the mindfulness and mental engagement are absent in the mindfulness establishments; knowing that the right abandonments are good and non-good; knowing that the miraculous legs make body and mind light; knowing the order of the faculties; knowing that the powers are unshakeable; knowing that the limbs of enlightenment realize all phenomena; knowing that the path is unconditioned; knowing that calm abiding is peaceful; knowing that insight is the good distinction of phenomena; knowing that there is no arising in the past extreme; knowing that there is no change in the future extreme; knowing that there is no abiding in the middle; knowing that the body is like a reflection; knowing that speech is like an echo; knowing that the mind is like an illusion, this is called knowing. What is a sutra of definitive meaning? It is the teaching of dependent origination. Thus, with the cessation of ignorance, old age and death cease. It teaches the absence of self, the absence of sentient beings, the absence of life, the absence of a nourisher, and the absence of a person. As the Sutra of the Raft says: Even the Dharma should be abandoned, what need is there to mention non-Dharma? Also, it fully reveals the three doors of liberation, the equality of the three times, and learning without clinging to the three trainings. As seeing all phenomena without arising and ceasing, not entering into the unchanging Suchness, and in the wisdom of the supramundane faculties, powers, and Bodhisattvas, all thoughts and mental engagements do not arise, this is called a sutra of definitive meaning. What is the nature of Dharma? Whether the Tathagata appears or does not appear, this nature of Dharma always abides, that is, the realm of Dharma, the abiding of Dharma, the unchanging nature of Dharma, and also

The limit of purity is called the nature of Dharma. That which is suchness, the non-inverted suchness, the non-other suchness, the non-dual nature, the true nature, that very nature, the limit of purity that is not the former limit, and the former limit that is not the limit of purity, this is called the nature of Dharma. The Mahayana, which arises from the six perfections, is called the nature of Dharma. The Pratyekabuddha vehicle, which arises from dependent origination, and the Shravaka vehicle, which arises from devotion to following sounds, this is called the nature of Dharma. Giving for the sake of great enjoyment is also the nature of Dharma. Keeping morality for the sake of being born in higher realms, listening for the sake of great wisdom, and meditating for the sake of non-separation, this is called the nature of Dharma. Naga Lord, furthermore, that which arises from the cause of improper attention is samsara. That which arises from the cause of proper attention is the nature of Dharma. The one with strong afflictions is a child. The one with strong wisdom is a wise person, this is called the nature of Dharma. What is called the nature of Dharma is like this: truly entering into the essence of all dharmas. Naga Lord, in that way, whoever relies on dependent origination relies on those four reliances. Whoever relies on those four reliances does not rely on nihilism and eternalism, therefore, whoever sees dependent origination sees Dharma. Whoever sees Dharma sees the Tathagata. Naga Lord, what is called dependent origination is non-arising. Non-arising is non-birth. Non-birth is Dharma. Dharma is freedom from attachment. Freedom from attachment is the Tathagata. What is called dependent origination is that which arises from conditions, the inexpressible nature of Dharma. Because of fully awakening to the nature of Dharma, it is the Tathagata. Naga Lord, what is called dependent origination is seeing Dharma with the eye of wisdom, seeing Dharma is the Tathagata. Naga Lord, a Bodhisattva who has faith in such a nature of Dharma,

It is called existing. O Dragon King, a Bodhisattva who possesses mindfulness does not make afflictions the cause, has faith in the noble ones, does not abandon those who are not noble, always protects the lineage of the noble ones, always protects the sacred Dharma, does not forget what has been heard much, does not abandon the aggregate of morality, makes the aggregate of concentration very pure, does not waver from the aggregate of wisdom, the aggregate of liberation is very stable, and is well-established in the aggregate of the wisdom of liberation. O Dragon King, a Bodhisattva who possesses mindfulness delights in the immeasurable Dharma of the Buddhas, seeks the immeasurable wisdom of the Buddhas, enters the immeasurable fearlessness of the Buddhas, enters the immeasurable individual perfect knowledge of the Buddhas, follows the immeasurable emanations of the Buddhas, follows the immeasurable thoughts of sentient beings, goes to immeasurable Buddha-fields, sees immeasurable Tathagatas, hears immeasurable Dharma, follows realizing immeasurable meaning, ripens the immeasurable realm of sentient beings, and enters immeasurable conduct. A mindful person is one who sees his own faults, not the faults of others. Why is that? O Dragon King, a mindful Bodhisattva necessarily remembers his own mind, and he should contemplate the mind with three kinds of mindfulness. What are the three? They are: mindfulness of afflictions, mindfulness of objects, and mindfulness of grasping. These are the three kinds of mindfulness with which to contemplate the mind. Furthermore, there are three kinds of mindfulness: What are the three? They are: being one-pointed in calm abiding, being skilled in insight, and being diligent in the Dharma. These are the three. Furthermore, there are three kinds of mindfulness of the mind: What are the three? They are: a peaceful mind, a tamed mind, and a pleasing mind. These are the three. Furthermore, there are three kinds of mindfulness of the mind: What are the three? They are: being upright, without deceit, and without stinginess. These are the three. Furthermore,
