Perfect. One does not go to, does not approach, does not rely on, does not make offerings to those who have completed all the deeds of the Bodhisattvas. One does not fully inquire, does not give inquiry, and does not listen to the Dharma that has not been heard. One does not fully remember the Dharma that has been heard. Furthermore, those individuals of the Bodhisattva Vehicle who are seized by the iron hook of the demon, who delight in practicing evil Dharma, and those who likewise follow them, and those who rely on the inferior, and those who are separated from the excellent, such as beings who tend to decline, the foolish, the deaf, the dumb beings, will tend to be inferior beings. Blessed One, for example, if a person plants a Champaka tree on sandy ground and does not water it, but instead covers the place where water is seen to flow with rubble and pebbles. Blessed One, in that case, the Champaka tree that is dry and separated from water, those that have not grown branches, leaves, and shoots will not grow; those that have grown branches, leaves, and shoots will also wither and fall into the dust. Blessed One, similarly, if a Bodhisattva generates the mind of enlightenment and is filled with pride and arrogance, then he will be separated from virtuous friends and listening to the Dharma, he will not listen to the Dharma that has not been heard, and he will not fully remember the Dharma that has been heard. Blessed One, for example, when the great ocean exists, it will tend towards the low-lying place. In order to tend towards the low-lying place, all rivers, springs, and streams will flow into it effortlessly. Blessed One, similarly, a Bodhisattva without pride, who is respectful to the Guru and the place of giving, can effortlessly make the doors of the profound Dharma resound in the ears. He will also abide in mindfulness. Blessed One, therefore, if a Bodhisattva is filled with pride and arrogance, and does not respect, does not bow down, does not prostrate to the Guru and the place of giving, Blessed One, alas! This Bodhisattva is the iron of the demon.

It should be recognized that it is caught by the hook: O Blessed One, this is the eleventh hook of the demon, which is the pride of the Bodhisattva and is very strong. O Blessed One, furthermore, the Bodhisattva is handsome and beautiful, rich and wealthy, with great enjoyment, many possessions, and many abundant storehouses and granaries, and is stable with form, enjoyment, lineage, family, attendants, and accumulation of merit. He is diligent in completely seeking the accumulation of wisdom, and is arrogant and haughty due to the power of form, enjoyment, attendants, and power. For those Bodhisattvas who belong to the ordained order, who have manifested from the household life, who are diligent in completely seeking the accumulation of wisdom, whose flesh and blood are dried up by umbrellas and hailstones, who are thin, weak, and whose bodies are emaciated, whose heads and clothes are like burning flames, who strive diligently with the umbrella as a sign, and who are constantly diligent in seeking virtuous Dharma, if they recognize that they are thin, weak, have an ugly complexion, and are unsightly, they think that they should despise them and should not listen to the well-spoken Dharma from them, then this will become more inferior and extremely ignorant than them. O Blessed One, this is the twelfth hook of the demon, which is the pride and arrogance of the Bodhisattva and is very strong. O Blessed One, these twelve are the hooks of the demons of the Bodhisattvas. If the Bodhisattvas do not completely transcend these, they will not even obtain the forbearance of conformity, let alone attain the unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment, that is impossible. O Blessed One, therefore, the Bodhisattva who wishes to attain the unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment should completely transcend these hooks of the demons. Thus spoke the noble Blo Gros Gya Tsho (慧海). The tenth volume is finished. Then, the Blessed One gave the Bodhisattva Blo Gros Gya Tsho the word "Good!" and said: Blo Gros Gya Tsho, you have well explained these hooks of the demons of the Bodhisattvas, very good!
