After inviting, please also grant (teachings) for the sake of compassion for us, please be aware. Then, the parents of Courageous Wisdom were delighted and said, "Son, well done! You have done well." They praised him openly and were pleased with the work of offering to the Tathagata. Then, Courageous Wisdom instructed his wife, Lotus, and her attendants: "Good woman, for the sake of the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha, and his retinue, prepare abundant food and drink with a hundred flavors, and give generously. After giving, also have the whole house decorated with banners, cleaned, hang streamers, decorate with silk ribbons, scatter flowers, and burn fragrant incense. Prepare suitable seats for the Tathagata and the Sangha of monks, place offerings and foot-washing water before them, and instruct the Blessed One to stay here." Courageous Wisdom went with friends, ministers, relatives, elders, and so on, and did all that had been said. Then, after that night had passed, the Blessed One, together with the Sangha of monks, came from the Great Grove of Prince Jeta's Garden, and with compassion for sentient beings, displayed various miracles of the Tathagata's miraculous power, and with miraculous powers went to the great city of Shravasti. Having arrived, he gradually went to the house of Courageous Wisdom. Then, Courageous Wisdom and his attendants welcomed the Blessed One, offered offerings and foot-washing water, and bowed their heads to the feet of the Blessed One, inviting the Blessed One and his attendants into the house, the Blessed One sat on a suitable high seat, and the Sangha of monks took their respective places. Then, the parents, siblings, friends, ministers, relatives, and elders of Courageous Wisdom were all delighted and respectfully prostrated, treating the Blessed One with respect and affection for the guru.

He came out angrily, thinking: Alas, miserable me, no one gave me anything. These evil practitioners, whose minds are not peaceful, who have no compassion, and who are not endowed with loving-kindness. Even if one gives to them, there is no fruit; to give to such people is a foolish benefactor. If I become a king, I will cut off the heads of all with an iron wheel. After that, it was said to the Bhikshus that food and drink were offered, and the Blessed One rejoiced in it, and another came. He received much food and drink, and merit, and he was very pleased. Coming out, he thought: Alas, miserable me, those who gave me much food and drink, and merit, are great practitioners, who are compassionate, whose minds are peaceful, and who are endowed with loving-kindness. They have made me satisfied for seven days. If one gives to them, the fruit is great; to give to such a great field of offering is a great and wise benefactor, excellent! If I become a king, I will serve the Sangha of Bhikshus, including the Buddha, for seven days with all kinds of offerings. Together with his retinue of attendants, he sat before the Blessed One. The Blessed One, with true joy, true praise, and true guidance, first made a discourse, with words of Dharma, causing many sentient beings to generate various roots of virtue. Then, rising from his seat, he departed and went to the Jeta Grove, where he resided. Thereafter, those two suffering ones wandered around, going to another place, and lay down in a somewhat dilapidated area. There, for that fortunate one, in the sky above, for the purpose of shade, a canopy of clouds with lightning and wind arose and remained. At that time, the king of that place passed away. There, there was no other person with the marks of a king who could be invested with royal power. There, the merchants, villagers, townsfolk, great ministers, ministers, gatekeepers, and those in attendance, consulted with and inquired of the diviners, astrologers, and those skilled in the movements of the stars and planets, asking, "Who will become king?"
