There are no limbs of enlightenment, and there is no path. A Bodhisattva who wishes to obtain the Dharani of Manjushri Vajra Essence should not abide in the dharmas of ordinary beings. The dharmas of ordinary beings should not be grasped, should not be abandoned, should not be diligently practiced, should not be transcended, should not be transferred, should not be abided in equanimity, should not be thought, should not be manifested, should not be lazy, should not be attached, should not be unattached, should not be completely discouraged, should not be touched. One should not generate the perception of pervasive affliction towards the dharmas of ordinary beings, one should not generate the perception of giving, one should not generate the perception of abandonment. One should also not view the dharmas of ordinary beings as anything other than the Buddhadharma. One should not mix the Buddhadharma with the dharmas of ordinary beings. One should not mix the dharmas of ordinary beings with the Buddhadharma. One should not make the dharmas of ordinary beings the object of focus. One should not mix the dharmas of the Hearers with the dharmas of the Solitary Buddhas. One should also not grasp the Buddhadharma, nor should one abandon the dharmas of ordinary beings. One should not protect the dharmas of ordinary beings, nor should one abide in the pure Buddha-field, nor should one abandon aspirations. Why is that? The Dharani of Manjushri Vajra Essence is non-conceptual, abiding truly in desire, abiding truly in hatred, abiding truly in delusion, abiding truly in woman, abiding truly in man, abiding truly in gods, abiding truly in nagas, abiding truly in yakshas, abiding truly in gandharvas, abiding truly in asuras, abiding truly in garudas, abiding truly in kinnaras, abiding truly in Buddhas, abiding truly in Dharma, abiding truly in Sangha, abiding truly in Hearers, abiding truly in Solitary Buddhas, abiding truly in hell beings, abiding truly in the birth place of animals, abiding truly in the world of Yama, abiding truly in evil, abiding truly in good, abiding truly in earth, abiding truly in water.

Completely merged into the earth, completely merged into the fire, completely merged into the wind, completely merged into the eye, completely merged into the ear, completely merged into the nose, completely merged into the tongue, completely merged into the body, completely merged into the mind. Manjushri, the essence of the Vajra-garbha dharani, is completely merged into all dharmas. Manjushri, it is like this: for example, whatever the realm of space is in the east, whatever is in the south, whatever is in the west, whatever is in the north, whatever is below, and whatever the realm of space is above, all of those will be completely merged into the realm of space and transformed. Similarly, this Manjushri Vajra-garbha dharani will also be completely merged into all dharmas and transformed. After he spoke thus, Manjushri, become a youth, said this to the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, how is desire the basis of the dharani? The Bhagavan said: Manjushri, desire, so-called desire, does not come from the east, causing all sentient beings to be afflicted; it does not come from the south; it does not come from the west; it does not come from the north; it does not come from below; it does not come from above, causing all sentient beings to be afflicted. It is not born from within, causing all sentient beings to be afflicted; nor is it from outside. Manjushri, if desire arises from within, causing all sentient beings to be afflicted, then because of this, sentient beings will become those who are universally afflicted, and later they will not be able to realize the Dharma. Manjushri, the Dharma does not come, does not go, does not abide within, nor does it abide outside, nor does it abide in the absence of both; there is no enumeration in that. Therefore, desire is called the basis of the dharani. Hatred is the basis of the dharani. Manjushri asked: Bhagavan, how is hatred the basis of the dharani? The Bhagavan said: Manjushri, hatred arises from clamor, and that clamor is neither past, nor future, nor present. Manjushri, if dharmas have already arisen from the past, then they will become permanent. Manjushri, the future
