And what is abandonment? If we do not know, please, Blessed One, explain. Then the Buddha spoke again, saying: The first mind is called seeking (寻,རྟོག་པ་). The arising of the second mind is called abandoning (舍,བསལ་བ་). The arising of the third mind is called entering (入,འཇུག་པ་). The arising of the fourth mind is called relinquishing Furthermore, it is like this: the first dhyana is called seeking. The second dhyana is called abandoning. The third dhyana is called entering. The fourth dhyana is called relinquishing. Furthermore, it is like this: dhyana is called mindfulness of the body, mindfulness of the mind, mindfulness of the dharma, and mindfulness of feelings. Likewise, the four superknowledges and all dharmas are the four correct abandonments, the four miraculous feet, the four truths, the four samadhis, the four signless ones, and the four bodhis. Monks, if you do not even clearly understand the first dhyana, what need is there to mention the four dhyanas and all the dharmas? Monks, you should enter the samadhi of dhyana by various means. If you contemplate impurity, then the four great elements of the body—skin, bones, joints, and the oozing of pus and blood, and like water poured into the container with nine openings will leak out, you will see the leaking of impure things, large and small excrement and urine, and extremely disgusting filth. From that samadhi, you will also see various kinds of things, such as moving, staying, accumulating, turning yellow, turning white, and turning black, various different things. If the mind is not confused, then when seeing those things, you should turn back. The white bones and the contemplation of counting the breath going in and out are also the same. If the four root vows are broken, the eight root vows of a bhikshuni are broken, the five vows of a female lay follower are broken, the ten vows of a novice are broken, the six heavy vows of a śikṣamāṇā are broken, stealing the common property of the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, stealing the property of the khenpo, acharya, lama, parents, and the Sangha, and the extensive sutras.

Such a person who slanders, When entering the Samadhi of meditation, one sees one's own body and speech like black wind, blood like burning flames, bones like mountains and rocks, veins like trees, and the five internal organs like snakes or lizards. Holding a great fire in hand and running in a great wind; carrying a great mountain on the head and standing but staggering; a lion emerging from the mouth, sparks emerging from the eyes, a great snake emerging from the nose, a wolf emerging from the ears, and feces and urine flowing like water, seeing it like an ocean. If one sees all the Buddhas of the ten directions displaying various miraculous transformations, when seeing such signs, one should rise from meditation and go to a forest or mountain monastery, recite the extensive scriptures, and confess sins. Like this, for past bad deeds, confession should also be done for seven days, or fourteen days, or twenty-one days, or twenty-eight days, or thirty-five days, or forty-two days, or forty-nine days. Having purified sins in this way, one should practice meditation. Among them, small sins will gradually make one's own body appear like a mountain of Vaidurya. If one has not violated the four root vows, up to not violating the five heavy sins of self-nature, then when entering Samadhi, one will see the Buddhas of the ten directions teaching the Dharma at the same time, and that is about the Four Noble Truths, or the Four Right Exertions, or the Four Legs of Miraculous Power, or suffering, or forbearance, or the peak, or the Dharma of the supreme Dharma of the world, or about the Seven Factors of Enlightenment, the Four Dhyanas, the Eightfold Noble Person's Dharma, the Four Emptinesses, the Three Samadhis, the Eight Liberations. If one sees darkness from Samadhi, or sees light, one should rise from that Samadhi and generate a very joyful mind. Thus the Blessed One taught. The monks went to the outer forest and practiced the Samadhi of meditation for seven days, and all attained the Arhat state, and then arrived at the place where the Blessed One was, and reported to the Buddha in this way: Blessed One, we...
