Those who have not practiced, whose discipline is corrupted, who do not accept the precious definitive meaning of the sacred Dharma, who completely abandon the precious definitive meaning of the sacred Dharma, whose wisdom is corrupted, who have completely fallen away from wisdom, who rely on individuals who have excessive pride due to having attained meditation, who cling to individuals, who abide in individuals, who are extremely attached to the object of Dharma, and who are afraid of hearing the exposition of emptiness—if they hear the exposition of this samadhi in which the present Tathagata dwells manifestly, they will not listen attentively, they will not have faith, they will not grasp it, they will not comprehend it, they will not hold it, and they will not even recite it. What need is there to mention that they will extensively explain it to others? Therefore, those people will not even obtain great love and joy. What need is there to mention practicing in suchness? Moreover, after hearing it, they will abandon it, they will not have faith, they will not accept it, and they will not believe in it. With thoughts of scrutiny, contempt, and slander, they will even say such words as, "These scriptures are false, and it is amazing that a bhikshu like Ananda appears in the world, and that such a sutra appears." And secretly, they will also say to each other, "Such sutras are made up by oneself, fabricated by oneself. This is not spoken by the Buddha, and it is not permitted by the Buddha." They will say such things and slander. It should be known that such foolish individuals have completely fallen away from the precious sacred Dharma and have completely abandoned the precious sacred Dharma. Good Guardian, for example, just as a person with a childish nature, upon seeing red sandalwood, will cover his nose so as not to smell it, and will close his eyes so as not to see it, similarly, Good Guardian, those foolish individuals, upon hearing of such a precious samadhi, will not think of listening to it outwardly, nor will they think of grasping it, comprehending it, holding it, or reciting it. Moreover, after hearing it, they will, like this, leave that place because they do not want to hear it. Good Guardian, for example, a certain merchant of jewels to those individuals who have a foolish nature

I thought of showing a priceless sapphire gem. Those foolish beings, upon seeing the sapphire gem, said this: 'Hey, mister, how much is this sapphire gem worth?' The gem merchant said to them: 'Give as much as the light of this sapphire gem covers in the four directions, filled with the seven precious things. Why? Because that is the complete value of this sapphire gem.' Those foolish sentient beings, upon hearing the value of the sapphire gem, laughed, mocked, and scorned it, and even tried to measure the sapphire gem with their two hands. Good protector, similarly, in the future, those monks who have many thoughts, little merit, have not generated roots of virtue, have not served the Buddhas of the past, are tormented by pride, tormented by jealousy, tormented by gains, respect, and praise, whose discipline is not completely pure, have not attained samadhi, have not attained wisdom, have little learning, do not associate with teachers, who view as persons, rely on persons, abide in persons, and are attached to the characteristics of dharma, will be frightened by the teaching of emptiness. When they hear of this samadhi in which the Buddha is presently dwelling, they will not think about it, will not have faith, will not believe, and will not admire it. Even if they hear it, they will laugh, mock, and scorn it. Secretly, they will also slander and abandon each other, saying such words as: 'These monks are deceivers! These monks are liars!' Like this, 'These are not spoken by the Buddha, but are made up and fabricated by themselves, with various words and letters, just talking, but explaining with the name of sutras, how strange!' They will say this, and also make people know that these sutras are not spoken by the Buddha. In this way, foolish beings with little merit and little virtue
