came. After making offerings, no matter how much power they had, they couldn't lift it. Then eight strong men from that city tried to lift the coffin. They took off their clothes and ornaments to make offerings, but no matter how much power they had, they couldn't lift it. Then sixteen strong men from that city tried to lift it, taking off their clothes and ornaments. They couldn't lift the Buddha's coffin, no matter how hard they tried. At that time, the Irreversible One (a Bodhisattva) said these words to the strong men: 'If all the men, women, boys, and girls in this city tried to carry the Tathāgata's (Sanskrit: Tathāgata, Devanagari: तथागत, Romanization: Tathāgata, literal meaning: Thus Gone One) coffin into the city, they wouldn't be able to lift it. How much more so you alone? If you pray for the strength of many attendants and gods to support the coffin, then you will be able to carry it into the city.' As soon as the Irreversible One spoke, at that moment, Indra (Sanskrit: Śakra, Devanagari: शक्र, Romanization: Śakra, literal meaning: Lord of the Gods), the lord of the gods, with the seven precious umbrellas, and countless flowers, incense, banners, streamers, and divine music, together with the retinue of gods, weeping bitterly from the sky, rose up, making offerings to the holy coffin. The gods of the six heavens of desire and the gods of the form realm also made offerings to the coffin, just like Indra, the lord of the gods. At that time, the Bhagavan (Sanskrit: Bhagavān, Devanagari: भगवान्, Romanization: Bhagavān, literal meaning: Blessed One), whose compassion pervaded all, in order to make the merit equal and without distinction for all beings, including the world, from the grove of Sal trees, the coffin rose to the height of one Tala tree, rising into the sky above and departing. All the people of the city of Kushinagar and all the gods, humans, and attendants, including the world, could not lift the Buddha's coffin. At that time, Indra, the lord of the gods, together with his retinue, with the great umbrella of seven precious jewels, with four precious pillars, the four sides adorned with necklaces of seven precious jewels, covering the Tathāgata's coffin from the sky above, displaying countless incense, flowers, banners, streamers, necklaces, divine music, and various silk streamers.

also made offerings to the sky. The gods of the six desire realms and the gods of the form realm also arranged offerings exceeding those of Indra and made offerings to the Tathagata's coffin. At that time, all the people of the city of Kushinagar (present-day Kasia village, Gorakhpur district, India) saw the sacred objects appearing in the sky above the Tathagata's coffin, beat their chests, cried out loudly, and wept. At that time, all the gods and humans, in order to make offerings to the Tathagata's coffin, filled the entire sky with seven precious jewels, pearls, flowers, incense, necklaces, and various silk banners like clouds, and with great sorrow, they made offerings to the Tathagata's seven precious jewels coffin, all crying out in unison, "Alas, alas, we have no merit, we cannot lift the Tathagata's coffin, we have no protector, we have no share of the root of virtue!" At that time, the golden coffin of the Bhagavan slowly descended from the sky of the Sala tree grove and entered the west gate of the city of Kushinagar. At that time, all the female lay practitioners residing in the city of Kushinagar, Bodhisattvas, countless Shravakas, gods, humans, and many attendants followed the Tathagata's coffin, filling the sky above and the ground, people holding hands, crying out loudly, beating their chests, and each using countless flowers, incense, precious victory banners, banners, and umbrellas, arranged on the ground and in the sky, making offerings to the Tathagata's coffin. The city of Kushinagar is forty-eight yojanas long on each side. At that time, the Tathagata's seven precious jewels coffin slowly descended from the sky above, came out from the east gate of the city of Kushinagar, circumambulated to the right, and entered the south gate of the city. Then it slowly ascended into the sky, circumambulated to the right from the north gate, and entered the west gate. In this way, three times
