Listen to the Dharma. All beings in the world do not ascend higher and higher, nor do they regress. Therefore, the world is certainly impermanent. Since it is so impermanent, why would a wise and intelligent person still be attached to the world? There is no place in the entire world where every sentient being has not experienced suffering. Even if one is born as a Brahma god in the higher realms, or as a god above the realm of neither perception nor non-perception, as soon as their lifespan ends, they immediately fall into the three lower realms. Even if one is born as a king of the Four Great Kings, or as a god among the Paranirmita-vasavartins, as soon as their lifespan ends, they are immediately reborn as animals, becoming lions, tigers, jackals, yaks, horses, cows, donkeys, and so on. A universal monarch who rules over the four continents, possessing wealth and power, will become impoverished when their merit is exhausted. Even food will be difficult to sustain life. A wise and intelligent person deeply understands this, and thus generates the thought of not being attached to the world. A wise and intelligent person also understands this: worldly things such as houses, clothes, food, bedding, medicine for illness, flowers, incense, garlands, various musical instruments, wealth, jewels, and so on, although they seem to be free from suffering, these things are inherently the cause of suffering. Since this is the case, how can suffering be used to completely eliminate suffering? Noble son, a wise and intelligent person understands this and will not generate attachment or the thought of happiness towards all worldly things. Noble son, for example, if a person is afflicted with a serious illness, even if there are various musical instruments, flowers, incense, and various garlands, they will not generate desire or attachment to them. The understanding of a wise and intelligent person is also the same. Noble son, a wise and intelligent person understands that the entire world is not a refuge, not a place of liberation, not a place of peace, not a place of satisfaction, and not a place to reach the other shore.

are impermanent, are suffering, are without self, and are impure dharmas, one should observe them as such. If I were to cling to the world in this way, how would I abandon these dharmas? It is like a person who does not like darkness, but instead goes from a bright place into the darkness. Darkness refers to the world, and light refers to that which transcends the world. If I cling to the world and generate darkness, I will be completely separated from the light. Darkness is ignorance, and light is wisdom. The cause of wisdom and light is the thought of not clinging to the world. Although desire is a complete bondage, I desire the light of wisdom, and I do not wish to cling to the world. A wise and intelligent person should observe in this way, and having understood this, should have the thought of not clinging to the world. Son of good family, a wise and intelligent person strives in the thought of not clinging to the world, and then gradually strives in the thought of death. Observing this living life, it is always surrounded by countless enemies, decaying moment by moment, and not growing. It is like a rapid stream that cannot stay, or like dew on the tip of grass that cannot last long, or like those who are led to slaughter are close to death, or like a cow or sheep being led to the butcher. Bodhisattva Dhrityaloka asked: "Lord, how does a wise and intelligent person understand the cessation moment by moment?" The Lord replied: "Son of good family, it is like this: Suppose four people who are skilled archers gather together and each discuss this, saying: 'We four will each shoot an arrow in one direction, shooting at the same time and landing on the ground at the same time.' Then one person thinks: 'I can catch the arrows shot by these four people with my hand at the same time before they fall to the ground.' Son of good family, is that person not very fast?" Bodhisattva Dhrityaloka asked: "Lord, that is so." The Lord replied: "Son of good family, on the arrow
