Again, he asked: What is a Buddha like? That householder said: Have you not heard? In the land of Kapilavastu, where the Shakya clan resides, there is one named Dondup (དོན་གྲུབ་, meaning "Purpose Accomplished"), whose clan is Gautama (གཽ་ཏ་མ།, Devanagari: गौतम, Romanized Sanskrit: Gautama, literal meaning: Gautama). His father is named Zastangma (ཟས་གཙང་མ།, meaning "Pure Food"). Not long after he was born, a seer looked at him and said: He will surely become a Chakravartin king, just like a mango in one's hand. But he did not like this, so he renounced his home and became a renunciate without a teacher, and realized it himself. He attained the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Greed, hatred, and delusion have been exhausted. He abides constantly and never changes. He does not transmigrate, is not born, and does not cease. He is without sorrow and fear. He treats all sentient beings equally, just like parents look upon their only child. His body and mind are supremely excellent in every way. He is superior to all, yet he is not arrogant or haughty. He has no duality of mind towards incense and perfume. He understands everything through wisdom. He has no obstacles to the Dharma. He is called Buddha because he possesses the ten powers, four fearlessnesses, five wisdoms, samadhi, great love, great compassion, and three close mindfulnesses. He is leaving tomorrow, so he is busy and has no time to talk. The householder Kyabme Zeshyin said: Good! The great man, the Buddha, who possesses unsurpassed qualities, where does he reside now? That householder said: He is now residing in the palace of Kalandaka's Bamboo Grove in this city of Rajagriha. Then, Kyabme Zeshyin, with one-pointed mind, remembered the Buddha's ten powers, four fearlessnesses, five wisdoms, samadhi, great love, great compassion, and three close mindfulnesses, and all his qualities. As he remembered in this way, a great light, like the sun, became exceedingly bright and radiant. He went in the direction from which the light came, and when he reached the city gate, by the blessings of the Bhagavan, the gate opened by itself. After coming out of the gate, on the road there was a statue of a worldly deity, and Kyabme Zeshyi

He paid homage with reverence and respect, but the sun had already set. Having developed a fearful mind, he returned to his dwelling and went to the city gate. A deity spoke to the unprotected almsgiver, saying: 'O young man, if you go before the Tathagata, you will gain much benefit and happiness.' The unprotected almsgiver said: 'What is meant by benefit and happiness?' The deity said: 'Householder, if someone were to give to one person one hundred fine horses adorned with precious jewels, one hundred fragrant cows, one hundred precious chariots, one hundred people cast from gold, one hundred beautiful women wearing garlands and adorned with jewels, and houses and immeasurable excellent palaces carved with pictorial reliefs, one hundred gold platters filled with silver paste, and one hundred silver platters filled with gold paste, and in this way gradually gave alms to all the people of Jambudvipa, the merit gained would not equal the merit gained by someone who, having set out to go before the Tathagata, merely took one step.' The unprotected almsgiver said: 'Young man, who are you who speaks in this way?' The deity said: 'Householder, I am the son of a Brahmin named Dhvajin, and in the past I was also your virtuous friend. In the past, having seen Shariputra and Maudgalyayana, I developed a joyful mind and followed them, becoming the son of the northern protector, Delight, and I constantly protect this royal city. Because I developed a joyful mind towards Shariputra and the others and paid homage to them, I obtained such an excellent and noble body by that cause and condition. What need is there to mention seeing the Tathagata, the great teacher, and making offerings and paying homage?' Householder, the unprotected almsgiver, having heard these words, returned to the road and came to where I was, and bowed his head at my feet. At that time, I taught him the Dharma as it is, and the householder, having heard it, attained the fruit of stream-entry. Having attained the fruit in this way, he again said this.

Now, the Tathagata, the Great Compassionate One, is in Shravasti. Please accept my offerings and allow me to go. At that time, I asked that householder, 'Are you in Shravasti? Do you have a boundless palace that can accommodate me?' The protectorless almsgiver reported, 'If the Blessed One allows me to go for the sake of compassion, I will do everything I can to find a place to stay.' Son of the family, at that time I allowed him to go without saying anything. The householder, the protectorless almsgiver, also knew that he was allowed to go, and reported to me, 'I have never done such a thing before. Please, Tathagata, show me the ritual of how to do it. Would you allow me to send Shariputra?' I also granted his request, and Shariputra and the protectorless almsgiver went to Shravasti in one chariot. By my blessing, they arrived at their destination in one day. Then, the protectorless almsgiver said to Shariputra, 'Venerable, is there a place outside this city that is neither too far nor too close to the city, with wells, lakes, good edible trees, vegetable gardens, flowers, abundant fruit trees, and is pure and secluded? I will build a boundless palace there for the Buddha, the Blessed One, and the Sangha of monks.' Shariputra said, 'This Jeta Grove is neither too close nor too far, and it is very pure and secluded. There are wells, rivers, flowers, and many fruit trees, and there are also things that are needed immediately. Examine this place and ask for the construction of a boundless palace!' After hearing this, the protectorless almsgiver went to the great householder Jeta and said to Jeta, 'I intend to build a dwelling for the supreme Dharma King. After your careful consideration, if I intend to buy it, would you be willing to sell it?' Jeta said, 'Even if the entire earth were covered with pure gold, I would not sell it.' The protectorless almsgiver said, 'Good, Jeta, you'
