At that time, he granted the request without speaking. Son of good family, after I first attained the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment, I went to a place called Karka. At that time, near the bank of a river called Jiklen, the Brahmin Kasyapa (འོད་སྲུང་,梵文:Kāśyapa,梵文罗马拟音:Kāśyapa,Light Protector) of the Kasyapa lineage, along with his five hundred retinue disciples, were practicing the unsurpassed path on the bank of that river. I went there specifically to teach the Dharma for them, and Kasyapa said to me: Gautama, I am old and have reached one hundred and twenty years. All the people of the central region and King Bimbisara and others all think that I have attained the fruit of Arhatship. If I listen to the Dharma from you, all people will develop wrong views and say that the monk Kasyapa is not an Arhat. Gautama, please depart quickly. If these people know that Gautama's qualities are superior to mine, we and others will not be able to obtain sustenance in the future. At that time, I said to them: Kasyapa, if you do not respect me and do not have a mind of hatred, then please stay for one night, and leave in the morning when you wake up. Kasyapa said: Gautama, there is no other deceit in my mind, although I like you, there is a very angry and fierce poisonous Naga in my place, and I am afraid that it will cause harm. I said: Kasyapa, the most ferocious of poisons is none other than the three poisons, and I have cut them off, so the poisons of the world will not frighten me. Kasyapa also said: Even if you are not afraid, it is best to see how things are before deciding whether to stay. Son of good family, at that time I specifically showed one thousand two hundred miracles for Kasyapa, as it is said in the Sutra. At that time, Kasyapa and his five hundred retinue, after seeing and hearing those miracles, all attained the fruit of Arhatship. Kasyapa had two younger brothers, one called River Kasyapa, and one called Gaya Kasyapa, and they also each had about five hundred retinue, and they also attained the fruit of Arhatship. At that time, in Rajagriha...

Having heard those things about the six teachers of the Tirthikas and their retinues, I developed great malice. In order not to violate my vow at that time, I went to Rajagriha according to the king's request. Before I arrived there, the king greeted me with countless hundreds of thousands of attendants, and I began to teach the Dharma. At that time, upon hearing the Dharma, eighty-six thousand gods of the desire realm generated the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete Bodhicitta. Twelve myriads of King Shuddhodana's servants and attendants attained the fruit of stream-entry. Furthermore, countless sentient beings were endowed with the mind of patience. Residing in the city, I ordained two hundred and fifty people, including Shariputra and Maudgalyayana and their retinues, abandoning their former thoughts and beginning to study the Dharma. I stayed there at that time, receiving the king's offerings. The six teachers of the Tirthikas gathered their retinues and went to Shravasti. At that time, a householder named Anathapindada, the giver of food to the unprotected, came to Rajagriha to take a bride. Having arrived in Rajagriha, he stayed at the house of a householder named Sanjaya. Then, that householder arose at midnight and said to his attendants: 'O men, arise and quickly decorate the house, sweep it with dusters, and prepare excellent food.' Having heard him speak thus, Anathapindada thought: 'Is this for a wedding feast, or for making music, or is it to invite King Shuddhodana of the central region?' Thinking thus, he went and asked: 'Great householder, is this for a wedding feast, or for making music, or is it to invite King Shuddhodana of the central region? Why are you so busy and acting so quickly?' That householder said: 'It is not so. Householder, I am inviting the unsurpassed, perfect Buddha, the king of Dharma.' Householder Anathapindada, having heard the name of the Buddha for the first time, his whole body became horripilated.
