transforming into villages, cities, towns, houses, mountains, landscapes, trees, and so on. Sometimes he manifests as a great body, sometimes as a small body, and sometimes he shows the form of a male, the form of a female, the form of a boy, and the form of a girl. Therefore, the Tathagata is neither illusion nor non-illusion. The Tathagata is not definite, because the Tathagata shows complete nirvana under the sala trees in the city of Kushinagar, therefore he is not definite. He is also not non-definite, because of permanence, bliss, self, and purity, therefore the Tathagata is also not non-definite. The Tathagata is not with outflows, because he has completely cut off the three types of outflows, therefore he is not with outflows. The three outflows are: all the afflictions of the desire realm, except for ignorance, are the outflow of desire. All the afflictions of the form and formless realms, except for ignorance, are the outflow of existence. The ignorance of the three realms is the outflow of ignorance. The Tathagata has completely cut off these, so he is not with outflows. Furthermore, all the base and vulgar common people do not see the outflow of existence. How do the base and vulgar common people not see the outflow of existence? All the base and vulgar common people are accompanied by such doubts about the future. For example: will a body be obtained in the future? Will it not be obtained? In the past, was this body initially existent? Was it initially non-existent? In the present, is this body existent? Is it non-existent? If there is a self, is it form? Is it formless? Is it both form and formless? Is it neither form nor non-form? Is it feeling? Is it not feeling? Is it both feeling and non-feeling? Is it neither feeling nor non-feeling? Is this body under the control of others? Is it not under the control of others? Is it both under control and not under control? Is it both not under control and not not under control? Is life existent and the body non-existent? Is the body existent and lif

Is it something without body and life? Or is it something that has both body and life? Or is it something that has neither body nor life? Are body and life permanent? Are they impermanent? Are they both permanent and impermanent? Are they neither permanent nor non-permanent? Was this body and life created by Īśvara? Was it created by time? Was it created without cause? Was it created by the nature of the world? Was it created by atoms? Was it created by dharma and non-dharma? Was it created by a person? Was it created by afflictions? Was it created by parents? Does the self reside in the heart? Does it reside in the eye? Or does it pervade the body? Did it come from somewhere else? Where will it go? Who is born? Who dies? The so-called self, in the past, was it a Brahmin caste? Was it a Kshatriya caste? Was it a Vaishya caste? Or was it a low caste? What kind of caste will it obtain in the future? Was this body of mine in the past a male? Was it a female? Or was it an animal? If I kill, will there be sin? From having no sin to drinking mad semen, will there be sin? Or will there be no sin? Did I do it myself? Did someone else do it? Will I experience the ripening of the fruit? Like this, with the thought, "I will experience the ripening of the fruit of karma," the affliction of doubt obscures the minds of immeasurable sentient beings. Due to the cause of doubt, these six kinds of minds arise. What are the six? Is there certainly a self? Is there certainly no self? Holding to self, and holding to self and what belongs to self; no self, and holding to no self; self or what is done by self; what is experienced by self; what is known by self. These are called evil views. The Thus-Gone One has completely uprooted such views and the immeasurable defilements associated with them, therefore he is without defilements. Son of good family, a Bodhisattva Mahāsattva who practices the transcendent conduct beyond great nirvāṇa will also completely cut off such defilements. The Buddhas, the Bhagavat, always practice the transcendent conduct, therefore they are without defilements. Son of good family, a base person does not well restrain the five senses, therefore there are three defilements.
