Those who are unruly act contrary to my teachings, breaking the vows of discipline and taking unchecked items. In order to seek gain and fame, they praise themselves before the householders, saying, 'I have attained the unpolluted.' They say, 'I have attained from the fruit of stream-entry to the fruit of arhatship,' and they belittle and revile others. They do not generate respect for the Buddha, the Dharma, the Sangha, the discipline, and the Khenpo. They say to me, 'This kind of item is allowed by the Buddha to be held, and that kind of item is not allowed by the Buddha to be held.' Even if I say, 'I have not truly allowed this kind of item,' they contradict my words, saying, 'This kind of item is truly allowed by the Buddha.' Those unruly ones do not believe my words. Therefore, I (the Buddha) say to the evil Mara, 'Do not think that you have succeeded!' I said, 'Now, in three months, I will enter into complete Nirvana.' Son of good family, because of those unruly monks, the Shravaka's close attendants who have entered into the training do not see my body and do not hear my Dharma, so they will say that the Tathagata has passed into Nirvana. The Bodhisattvas see my body and always hear the Dharma from me, so they will not say that I have passed into complete Nirvana. Although the Shravaka's close attendants say that the Tathagata has passed into Nirvana, I have not truly passed into Nirvana. Son of good family, if among my Shravaka's close attendants, someone says that the Tathagata has passed into Nirvana, then he is not my close attendant, but has become a friend of Mara, is an evil-seer, is sinful, and should be known as not being a right-seer. Whoever says that the Tathagata has not passed into Nirvana, that one is my true close attendant, is not a friend of Mara, and should be known as a right-seer, not an evil-seer. Son of good family, from the beginning, I have not seen my close attendants saying that the Tathagata does not do the benefit of sentient beings, nor does he speak, but merely abides, and then saying that is entering into Nirvana. Son of good family, for example, a householder has many sons, and if that householder goes to another place...

Until they return, the sons think that the father has died. Because before that householder dies, the sons are deluded by inverted views, so they generate the idea of death. Similarly, the disciples of the Hearers, because they do not see me, think that the Tathagata has completely passed into nirvana in the city of Kushinagar, between the Sala trees. In reality, I have not completely passed into nirvana, but the disciples of the Hearers generate the idea of having passed into nirvana. Son of good family, for example, when a bright lamp is covered, others who do not know think that the lamp has gone out. Because the glory of the light has not truly gone out, they generate the idea of going out because they do not understand. Similarly, the disciples of the Hearers are also like this. Although they have the eye of wisdom, they are covered by afflictions, so their minds are inverted. Because they do not see the true body, they generate the idea of non-existence and passing away. I do not truly accept nirvana. Son of good family, for example, a blind person cannot see the sun and moon. Because they cannot see, they do not understand the signs of day and night, light and darkness. Because they do not understand, they say that the sun and moon do not truly exist. In reality, the sun and moon exist, but the blind person cannot see them. Because they cannot see, they generate a wrong idea and say that there is no sun and moon. Similarly, the disciples of the Hearers are also like that blind person. Because they do not see the Tathagata, they think that the Tathagata has passed into nirvana. In reality, the Tathagata has not truly passed into nirvana. They generate such thoughts with wrong ideas. Son of good family, for example, when clouds and fog cover the sun and moon, foolish people who do not understand say that there is no sun and moon. The sun and moon truly exist, but because they are completely covered, sentient beings cannot see them. Similarly, the disciples of the Hearers are also like this. Because many afflictions cover the eye of wisdom, they do not see the Tathagata and say that the Tathagata has passed away. Son of good family, the Tathagata only shows the behavior of a small child, but has not passed away. Son of good family, for example, in Jambudvipa, the sun
