It is called the remainder of ripening. Thus, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, by diligently practicing the Great Nirvana, will completely eliminate the remainder of ripening. What is the remainder of karma? For example, the karma of killing all inferior beings, and all the karma of the Shravakas, and the karma of the Stream-enterer taking seven rebirths, and the karma of the Once-returner taking two rebirths, and the karma of the Non-returner taking birth in the realm of form, these are called the remainder of karma. The Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, by diligently practicing the Great Nirvana, will also completely eliminate these remainders of karma. What is the remainder of existence? The Arhat attains the fruit of Arhatship, the Pratyekabuddha attains the fruit of Pratyekabuddhahood, without karma and without afflictions, the result transforms into two kinds, this is called the remainder of existence. Therefore, these three kinds of Dharma with remainder, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, by diligently practicing the Mahayana Great Nirvana Sutra, will completely eliminate them, this is called the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva eliminating the remainder of existence. How does the Bodhisattva cultivate the pure body? The Bodhisattva-Mahasattva has five kinds of minds when guarding the precept of not killing. What are the five? Inferior, medium, superior, superior of the superior, and superior of the medium. Up to right view, it should also be known to be expanded in the same way. These fifty kinds of minds are called the initial generation of mind, and will possess fifty kinds of minds that do not eat meat. Thus, the complete hundred minds are called possessing a hundred merits, and possessing a hundred merits transforms into one mark. Thus, gradually possessing the thirty-two marks is called the pure body, therefore, one should also cultivate the eighty minor marks. In the world, sentient beings speak of eighty deities. What are the eighty? Twelve sun gods, twelve great gods, five great stars.

And, the god named Smeton (sme bdun), and the god named Horse (rta), and the god of traveling on the road, and the god named Bharadvaja (ba ra dwa dza), and the god of merit, and the twenty-eight constellations, and the god of the earth, and the god of wind, and the god of water, and the god of fire, and Brahma, and the god named Rudra (ru dra), and the god named Indra (indra), and the god Kumara (ku ma ra), and the hundred-armed one, and the god of the Great Lord, and the god named Bashala (ba sha la), and the god of many children, and the god of the four protectors, and the god without letters, and the god named Vasu (ba su), and so on, eighty in total. For the sake of sentient beings, having cultivated the eighty minor marks and completely adorned them, this is called the pure body of a Bodhisattva. Why is that? Because all sentient beings believe in and follow these eighty gods. Therefore, if a Bodhisattva cultivates the eighty minor marks, without moving his body, he will make those sentient beings see such forms according to what they believe in. Having seen them, they will generate even more respect and veneration, and each of them will generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Therefore, Bodhisattvas, great beings, must purify their bodies completely. Son of good family, for example, if someone wants to invite a great king, he will decorate all the houses very beautifully and make them very clean, and prepare various kinds of delicious food, and then he will invite the king to come. Bodhisattvas, great beings, are also like that. If they want to invite the wheel-turning king of the Dharma of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, they must first purify their own bodies very purely, then the unsurpassed king of Dharma will abide. Therefore, Bodhisattvas, great beings, must accomplish a pure body. Son of good family, for example, if someone wants to drink nectar, he must first purify his body. Similarly, if Bodhisattvas, great beings, want to drink the unsurpassed nectar of Dharma—the Prajnaparamita, they must first purify their bodies with the eighty minor marks. Son of good family, for example, if pure water is poured into a very good vessel of gold or silver, then both the inside and outside will appear clear and clean.
