It is not the fruit of sound. If Nirvana is the fruit of sound, then it should be understood that Nirvana is not a permanent dharma. Son of good family, for example, in the world, the dharma of dependent origination has a cause, so it also has a fruit. If there is no cause, there is no fruit. If the cause is impermanent, the fruit is also impermanent. Why is that? Because from the cause it can also become the fruit, and from the fruit it can also become the cause. The meaning is like that, so all dharmas do not have a definite nature. If Nirvana is born from a cause, the cause itself is impermanent, so the fruit is also impermanent. Therefore, Nirvana is not born from a cause, and its nature is not a fruit, so it is permanent. Son of good family, the meaning is like that, so the nature of Nirvana is without determination and without fruit. Son of good family, what is called Nirvana can also be called determination, and can also be called fruit. What is determination? If someone asks, the Nirvana of all Buddhas is permanent, blissful, self, and pure, so it is determined. Because there is no birth, old age, and death, it is determined. For those with wrong views, those who have violated the four root downfalls, those who slander the profound and vast sutras, and those who have committed the five heinous crimes, if they abandon their previous minds, they will surely attain it, therefore it is determined. Son of good family, just as you say, if someone hears one verse or one word of the Great Nirvana Sutra that I have spoken, they will attain unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment. You still do not understand this meaning clearly. Listen carefully, and I will explain it to you in detail. Son of good family, if any son or daughter of good family hears one word or one verse from the Great Nirvana Sutra, and after hearing it, does not grasp the nature of the word, does not grasp the nature of the verse, does not grasp the nature of hearing, does not grasp the nature of the Buddha, and does not grasp the nature of the teaching, then that is called the nature of no nature. Because it is the nature of no nature, one can attain unsurpassed perfect and complete
