The power of freedom is called the Great Lord. In order to dominate, one obtains freedom. How is it called freedom? The Tathagata abides single-mindedly, without moving, yet shows countless forms and appearances, and with individual aspirations, pervades the beings to be tamed in various ways. Sometimes, the Tathagata performs one action and accomplishes the tasks of individual beings. Although the body of the Tathagata always abides in one Buddha-field, all other Buddha-fields can see it. Such freedom is called the Great Lord. Because the senses (referring to the six senses) obtain freedom, how do the senses obtain freedom? One sense of the Tathagata can see forms, hear sounds, smell fragrances, taste flavors, feel touch, and know dharmas, yet the six senses of the Tathagata do not see forms, do not hear sounds, do not smell fragrances, do not taste flavors, do not feel touch, and do not know dharmas. Because of freedom, the senses can exercise freedom. Such freedom is called the Great Lord. Because of freedom, all dharmas are obtained. The Tathagata has no thought of attainment in his mind. Why? Because there is nothing to be attained. If something exists, then it can be called attainment. If in reality there is nothing, how can the notion of attainment be established? If the Tathagata has the thought of attainment, the Tathagata will not enter nirvana, because there is no attainment, therefore it is said to enter nirvana. Because of freedom, all dharmas are obtained. Because all dharmas are obtained, it is called the Great Lord. Because of obtaining the freedom of speech, the Tathagata speaks the meaning of one verse, and even after immeasurable kalpas, the meaning will not be exhausted. For example, morality, meditation, generosity, wisdom, etc. When the Tathagata speaks of these, he does not think, "I am speaking, the other is listening," and does not even generate the thought of one verse. Worldly people consider a combination of four lines to be one verse, so they also follow the worldly people's way of speaking and say one verse. The nature of dharma is actually unspeakable, but because of freedom, the Tathagata speaks, and because of speaking, he is called the Great Lord. The Tathagata.

The earth pervades all places, like empty space. The nature of space is invisible, and the Tathagata is the same; in truth, although invisible, because of his power he sees all. Such power is called the Great Self. Such a Great Self is called the Great Nirvana, and that is why it is called the Great Nirvana. Furthermore, son of good family, just as a treasure of precious jewels is called a great treasure because it has many riches and various forms, so too is the Tathagata's very profound treasure; it is endowed with wonders and marvels and is imperishable, and therefore it is called the Great Nirvana. Furthermore, son of good family, endless wealth is called a great treasure, and Nirvana is also called great because it is endless. Furthermore, son of good family, because there is great bliss, Nirvana is called the Great Nirvana, but Nirvana is not without bliss. Because of the four kinds of bliss, Nirvana is called the Great Nirvana. What are the four? Because all pleasures are cut off; pleasure that is not cut off is called suffering. That which has suffering is not called great bliss. Because pleasure is cut off, there is no suffering. That which has neither suffering nor pleasure is called great bliss. The nature of Nirvana is neither suffering nor pleasure; therefore Nirvana is called great bliss, and that is why it is called the Great Nirvana. Furthermore, son of good family, there are two kinds of bliss: the bliss of ordinary beings and the bliss of the Buddha. The bliss of ordinary beings is impermanent and destructive, so it is not true bliss. The Tathagata's constant bliss does not change or transform, so it is called the Great Nirvana. Son of good family, furthermore, there are three kinds of feeling: feeling pleasure, feeling pain, and feeling neither pleasure nor pain. Feeling neither pleasure nor pain also turns into suffering, and although Nirvana is similar to neither pleasure nor pain, it has great bliss. Because of great bliss, Nirvana is called great.
