Like the extinction due to thirst, sickness, fear, and desire, this is not called great extinction. Son of good family, if inferior sons or Śrāvakas, etc., whether mundane or due to the conditions of the noble path, cut off all the afflictions of the desire realm, it is called obtaining bliss, although obtaining bliss in this way is also called extinction, it is not called great extinction. From cutting off all the afflictions of the first dhyāna, up to the extinction of the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, it also becomes obtaining bliss, and obtaining bliss in this way is also called extinction, but it is not called great extinction. What is the reason for this? Because afflictions arise and there is a habitual tendency for existence, so there will be rebirth. How is it called the habitual tendency of afflictions? Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas have the habitual tendency of afflictions. For example, my body, my clothes, I go, I come, I speak, I listen. The Buddhas, the Bhagavat, are completely extinguished, and the nature of extinction is without self, without bliss, only permanent and completely pure, saying this is called the habitual tendency of afflictions. The Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha have different characteristics, and the Tathāgata is ultimately extinguished, so the extinction obtained by Śrāvakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, is the same, without difference, saying this, because of that reason, what is obtained by the two vehicles is not called great extinction. What is the reason for this? Because there is no permanence, bliss, self, and purity, permanence, bliss, self, and purity are called great extinction. Son of good family, just as a place that can hold a lot of water is called the ocean, the place where Śrāvakas, Pratyekabuddhas, Bodhisattvas, and the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, enter is called great extinction. The four dhyānas and the three samādhis, the eight noble persons and the eight holy places, universally walking

Accumulating immeasurable virtuous dharmas with the ten powers is called the Great Nirvana. Son of lineage, for example, a river full of fragrance, where even the best fragrant elephant cannot stand, is called a great river. The Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, and even the Bodhisattvas of the ten bhumis, cannot see the Buddha-nature, which is called Nirvana, but not the Great Nirvana. Whoever clearly sees the Buddha-nature is called the Great Nirvana. Only the supreme ones can reach the depths of this Great Nirvana. The supreme one refers to the Bhagavan. Son of lineage, just as a great dragon and old age, etc., sweep away for a long time, leaving not even a speck of dust, that is called a great mountain. What the Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, Bodhisattvas, and great dragons, etc., cannot see is called the Great Nirvana. Furthermore, son of lineage, wherever a small king resides, that place is called a small city. The place where a Chakravartin king resides is called a great city. The place where eighty thousand Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, or sixty thousand, or forty thousand, or twenty thousand, or ten thousand reside is called Nirvana. The place where the possessor of the supreme Dharma, the Chakravartin king, resides is called the Complete Great Nirvana. Therefore, it is called the Complete Great Nirvana. Son of lineage, for example, if someone sees the four types of armies and does not feel fear, that is called a great being. If any sentient being in the three lower realms does not fear the evil karma of afflictions, and widely liberates beings in those realms, it should be known that they have attained the Great Nirvana. If someone serves their parents, respects the Shramanas and Brahmins, diligently practices virtuous Dharma, speaks only the truth, without falsehood or deception, endures evil, gives to the poor, and is able to practice generosity, that is called a great person. A Bodhisattva is also like this, having love and great compassion for all beings, regarding sentient beings as if they were their parents.

Delivering many sentient beings from the ocean of Samsara, showing all sentient beings the one true path, this is called the Great Nirvana. Being called "Great Son of the Lineage" is inconceivable, because for inconceivable things, all sentient beings cannot believe, this is called the Great Nirvana. Merely seeing the Buddha and Bodhisattvas is called the Great Nirvana. Again, for what reason is it called "Great"? Because there are immeasurable causes and conditions, it is called "Great." Son of the Lineage, for example, worldly people are made by many causes and conditions, so it is called "Great." Nirvana is also the same, it can only be obtained by many causes and conditions, therefore it is called "Great." Again, how is it called "Great"? Because Nirvana has a great self, Nirvana is called "Great Nirvana." Nirvana is without self, but because it obtains great sovereignty, it is called great self. How is great sovereignty obtained? It is called the self that obtains eight sovereignties. What are the eight sovereignties? That is, one body can manifest many bodies, the number and size of the bodies are like extremely small dust particles, which can fill the ten directions of immeasurable worlds. The body of the Tathagata is actually not an extremely small dust particle, but because it obtains sovereignty, it can manifest bodies like extremely small dust particles, such sovereignty is called great self. With one extremely small dust particle body, it fills the three thousand great thousand worlds. In reality, the body of the Tathagata fills the three thousand great thousand worlds, it is boundless and has sovereignty, so it can fill the three thousand great thousand worlds, such sovereignty is called great self. With the body that completely fills the three thousand great thousand worlds, it flies in the empty sky, surpassing the Buddha lands as numerous as the sands of twelve Ganges rivers, and there is no obstacle. The body of the Tathagata actually has no weight, but because of sovereignty, it can show weight. Like this
