. Even if one is enticed by gentle words and offers precious jewels, one will not be liberated. Evil kinds do not always kill at all four times. The five aggregates are not like that; even in an instant, they constantly kill sentient beings. Evil kinds are exhausted in one place, so there is escape and flight. The five aggregates are not like that; they pervade all places, so there is no place to escape and flee. Evil kinds only kill people, but after killing, they do not follow. The five aggregates are not like that; even after killing sentient beings, they follow and do not separate. Therefore, a Bodhisattva, even if living with evil kinds for as long as they live, will not approach the five aggregates even for a moment of wisdom. Those with wisdom will be liberated from the five aggregates through skillful means. Skillful means are the Noble Eightfold Path, the Six Perfections, and the Four Immeasurables. Through such means, one will be liberated, and the body and mind will not be harmed by the aggregates. Why is that? The body is like a diamond, and the mind is like the sky; therefore, it is very difficult to destroy the body and mind. Therefore, a Bodhisattva, realizing that the five aggregates possess various kinds of non-virtuous qualities, generates great fear. Diligently practicing the Noble Eightfold Path is like that person who, fearing the four poisonous snakes and the five evil kinds, enters the path and goes without hesitation. One who pretends to be a friend is the one with desire. A Bodhisattva, a great being, thoroughly understands that desire and all afflictions are like enemies pretending to be friends. Whoever knows this cannot be obstructed. Whoever does not know will be harmed by demons, and desire is the same. Those beings who know the characteristics at that time will not experience the suffering of wandering in samsara. If one does not know, one will wander in the six realms and experience all kinds of suffering without exception. Why is that? Because the transformation from desire into disease is very difficult to abandon. It is like the difficulty of abandoning an enemy who pretends to be a friend.

Acting like an enemy disguised as a friend always seeks opportunities, first being friendly, then separating from what is lovely, and then associating with hateful enemies. Desire is also similar to this, causing beings to become distant from all virtuous dharmas and close to all non-virtuous dharmas. Therefore, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva should understand desire as being like an enemy disguised as a friend, thereby seeing what is unseen and hearing what is unheard. Ordinary people, although they can see the faults of samsara and possess wisdom, are covered by ignorance and eventually become blind to them. Hearers and solitary realizers are also similar to this, although they see, it is as if they do not see; although they hear, it is as if they do not hear. Why is that? Because they harbor a mind of desire. And how is that? Even though they see the faults of samsara, they cannot quickly proceed to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Therefore, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva should thoroughly understand that the afflictions of desire are like an enemy disguised as a friend. What are the characteristics of an enemy disguised as a friend? For example, an enemy pretends to be untrue but shows the characteristics of truth; pretends to be close and harmless but shows the characteristics of closeness; pretends to be not truly good but shows the characteristics of good; pretends to be not truly lovely but shows the characteristics of loveliness. Why is that? Because they are always looking for opportunities, wanting to harm. Desire is also similar to this, always pretending to be untrue to beings but showing truth; pretending to be not close but showing closeness; pretending to be not good but showing good; pretending to be not lovely but showing loveliness, always deceiving all beings, causing them to wander in samsara. Therefore, a Bodhisattva should understand desire as being like an enemy disguised as being close. An enemy disguised as being close can see the actions of body and speech, but cannot see the mind, therefore one will be deceived. Desire is also similar to this, it is merely false deception, without truth. Therefore, all beings are deceived. An enemy disguised as being close has a beginning and an end,
