It will transform. If one can endure suffering, one will cultivate immeasurable virtuous Dharma. If I cannot endure suffering, then when experiencing suffering, a mind of hatred will arise. When experiencing happiness, a mind of attachment will arise. If one seeks happiness and does not find it, ignorance will arise. Therefore, ordinary people generate defilements from the four requisites. Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas, through thorough thought and realization, do not generate defilements. Therefore, Bodhisattvas are also called without outflows. Then, how could the Tathagata have outflows? Therefore, the Tathagata is said to be without outflows. Furthermore, sons of good family, all ordinary people, even if they guard their body and mind very carefully, will still generate three kinds of unwholesome thoughts. Because of these causes and conditions, they cut off afflictions, and even if they are born in the realm of neither perception nor non-perception, they will eventually fall into the three lower realms. Sons of good family, for example, a person crossing the ocean drowns and dies just as they are about to reach the other shore. Ordinary people are also like this, just as they are about to exhaust the three realms of existence, they fall back into the three lower realms. Why is this? Because they lack virtuous thoughts. What are virtuous thoughts? They are the six mindfulnesses. The virtuous mind of ordinary people is weak, while unwholesome thoughts blaze intensely. Because the virtuous mind is weak, the mind of wisdom becomes thin. Because the mind of wisdom is thin, all defilements arise and increase. Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas, with their pure eyes of wisdom, see the faults of the three thoughts. These three thoughts have various faults, so they are always recognized as enemies of the three vehicles of sentient beings. Because of these three thoughts as causes and conditions, countless ordinary sentient beings are prevented from seeing the Buddha-nature, and for countless eons, they generate wrong views, such as: The Tathagata, the Bhagavan, is not permanent, blissful, or self; there is only complete purity.

When the Tathagata has completely passed into nirvana, all sentient beings look upon things as permanent, without happiness, without self, and without purity. With a reversed mind, they say there is permanence, happiness, self, and purity. In reality, there are also no three vehicles. With a reversed mind, they say there are three vehicles. The only true path is the truth of reality. With a reversed mind, they say there is not even one truth. The three kinds of unwholesome thoughts are always condemned by the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. These three unwholesome thoughts always greatly harm oneself and others. Because of these three thoughts, all unwholesome things constantly follow like a shadow. These three thoughts themselves turn into the three kinds of defilements, connecting the endless cycle of sentient beings. The Bodhisattva Mahasattva always contemplates these three thoughts in this way. If a Bodhisattva has a desire-filled thought arising from causes and conditions, they do not speak of it and do not take it. For example, a person who is extremely good and very clean does not take feces and all impure things. No one takes a fiercely burning fire with their hand. A Brahmin by nature is not defiled by the meat of a cow. Just as those who are full do not consume bad food. Just as a Chakravartin king does not sit on the same seat with all the lowly castes, so too the Bodhisattva Mahasattva does not take or enjoy the three thoughts. Why is that? The Bodhisattva thinks thus: If all sentient beings know me to be a field of merit, how can I practice these unwholesome dharmas? If I practice those unwholesome thoughts, then I am not fit to be a field of merit for sentient beings. Even though I have not said that I am a field of merit, sentient beings, seeing this conduct, will say that I am a field of merit. If I now generate such unwholesome thoughts, all sentient beings will

Will be deceived! I have been deceived before, so that I have been wandering in samsara for countless kalpas and have fallen into the three lower realms. If I accept the offerings given by the faithful donors with an unwholesome mind, then all the gods, humans, and sages with the five supernormal powers will control and scold me. If I accept the offerings given by the faithful donors with an unwholesome thought, or if the result of the donors becomes small, or if the result becomes meaningless, if I accept the offerings given by the donors with an unwholesome mind, then the donors will become enemies of faith. If all the donors generate the thought of me as their only child, why should I deceive them and generate the thought of hostility? That is because if the donors do not obtain the result, or if the result becomes small, then it should never be said that I am a renunciant. A renunciant is a race that produces unwholesomeness. If unwholesomeness is produced, then one should not be called a renunciant. A renunciant is one who possesses body and speech. If one does not possess them, then one should not be called a renunciant. I have renounced my parents, brothers, wife, children, and all relatives and friends to become a renunciant and practice the path. This is the time to fully cultivate wholesome thoughts, not the time to cultivate unwholesome thoughts. For example, it is like someone who enters the ocean to search for jewels, but does not take the real jewels and instead takes crystals. Furthermore, some people abandon sacred music and play in filth and impure places; just as one abandons a jewel daughter and sleeps with a maidservant; just as one abandons a golden vessel and uses an earthenware bowl; just as one abandons nectar and drinks poison; just as one abandons a friendly and close wise doctor and takes medicine from a hostile and hateful quack doctor and drinks it. I am also like that, abandoning the taste of the Dharma of the great teacher Shakyamuni Buddha, which is like nectar, and drinking the various forms of the unwholesome thoughts of the devil. The human body, which is extremely difficult to obtain, like the Udumbara flower, I will now obtain.
